Nice rocks. Love the one with the purple. It was certainly more than i was expecting that is to be sure, i will have to keep an Eye out for more. I see a lot of really cool rocks here but they are Brown, Gray, Red or Yellow almost exclusively so to cut this open and find a dark magenta purple-yness inside was stunning

I have emptied the tumbler and readied it for the next batch. But first Our graduates, those moving on to 220, after a brief respite Up next we have our Remedial class, those stones who will be joining my cuts from last Saturday in the tumbler till December 18th And finally the dropouts, these two will pay a visit to the tile saw and see if they can't be reformed (I am torn betwixt wanting to see what is inside and fearing it is nothing) And joining this batch will be some small rocks and these pieces of a limestone/quartz spheroid i started dissolving but got crushed I included 1 piece of every stone except the 2 soft spongy looking ones

these were "due" to come out on Wednesday, but will probably keep tumbling till Saturday afternoon. since I have filled a coffee can with 80gr rocks I will move this batch directly to 220 and fill it in with some older ones

Ok so a few days behind schedule but here we are, i pulled these things out Saturday afternoon, the rocks on the right are the ones i started with, The ones on the left are the older ones i added. I have a 3lb coffee can of 80gr tumbled stones and I used these to fill in This next part will take a little longer since i will have to push more stones through 220gr to have enough for pre-polish and polish without using beads. I'll keep you apprised

These 'self found' rocks are always my favorite. Those are all nice ones. I like the before / after shots too. It is interesting to see what it inside these lumps of stone. You must have a nice camera. These look like high definition pictures. I like the one with the hole in it a lot. I would get that on a flat lap, and use it for a paperweight at my desk no doubt. Just love nature's creations. You never know what you will get. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! these were taken with my phone actually. most smartphones now are equipped with some really cutting edge camera tech. that being said i would rather have a DSLR with a proper eye-piece and good lenses

Ah! The cameras found in phones these days are amazing. I wonder how the companies that make actual cameras can stay in business these days. Probably tough.
Well, I like all of the pictures for sure. The before / afters probably my favorite for some reason. I should do more of those myself too, when making posts.
Thanks for sharing your work so far! I love self-collected rocks!

ok so i was running low on small rocks and i just wanted to try something different. i selected and cut to fit a chunk of pet wood that was almost as long as my tumbler and just dumped stone in to fill it up. the hope is that the pet wood will tumble on it's axis and become a cylinder, ish. well that was Saturday Jan 4, on Jan 11 i opened the barrel to find wet rocks, tan water, and undigested SiC in the bottom of the barrel. i dumped the water back in, shook everything up real well and put it back on the motor. i stopped it and shook it several times that day and when i checked it on the 13th the water was frothy and silvery gray so I will leave it till the 18th and then get back to the pre-polish for the starting batch.
