Hello! Hopefully it’s not too late to get some advice. This weekend I will be in southern Arizona and planned on doing some rock hounding. I’ll be in the tombstone, bisbee, Sierra Vista Area. I already bought one of the books for finding rocks in that area, just wondering if anybody with experience down there would be willing to share some spots or tips and tricks. Looking for just about anything that I can create cabochons with. According to the book there’s a lot of variety down there the most it says is too thin for cabochons. Thanks and have a great weekend, If you’re in the area you’re more than welcome to join me.

I just moved here, so have no idea. Hopefully someone will speak up! Too bad beefjello isn't here anymore The rain should clear out for the most part by Sunday. We got snow in areas south of Tucson today!

I have only hounded North of Tombstone once, we took the dirt road just north of town heading east. We stopped at a few old mine sites, we found traces of copper minerals and some cool green and black serpentine (Lapidary Grade). If you take any of the dirt roads in Sierra Vista, you should be able to find some copper minerals, many sites in the hounding books.
On your way home, detour up to I10 and shoot through Quartzite, there is plenty going on right now. If you head to the Phx area PM me, I will set you up with a bucket of nice materiel.
Have fun. Tim

Tim Thank you so much for the advice!!! I’ve heard of quartzsite but never been so we will definitely make that detour I think we’re heading back north on Wednesday! I’ll post some pics of what we find tomorrow!
