one has yellow inclusions, the other has purple "veins".. that a specific quartz?

Hard to tell from the picture, but if it is quartz then purple/yellow suggest it might have tried to to form amethyst and the dark stain could be smokey. This is caused by heat, radiation and a trace of iron in the silica.

thanks for the help : )... i live in northern georgia, and quartz is everywhere. i live near a gold bearing river, and they dredge it for silt for concrete. and leave piles of the larger stones, and dont mind me searching through them. the only quartz i havnt found yet is amethyst and blue. ive even found some citrine, but mostly clear and smokey.
