Someone tried to hack my bank account last night. All my money is safe. It had to be random because I don't even use my name as my my user name. I never do. Got a notice this morning and had to change my password. Not something to wake up to.

Glad they weren't successful and the bank caught it. Scary times we live in.

Are you using a password manager app? If not, I highly recommend using one.
We've been using Roboform for years. It's integrated with browsers and makes life easy when logging in. We use long, complex passwords that have been generated by the app (like, say, SDzcR1c9w$y#2Mh%) for all of our accounts on all of our devices. The only downside, a rare one, is when you have to manually set up a login and type in all those odd characters.

I have a spiral bound index book that has all my passwords. I manually enter them every time. My SIL is an IT. She said I have very good passwords. They were not able to get into my account, so that says something. I don't have a smart phone to access any accounts, either. Like I said, I don't even use my my real name as my user name. Just glad they didn't get in. Checked my other accounts and all looks good.

I use DASHLANE for some passwords. Others I keep in a spiral bound address book. It has ABC et al on the edges.

This is what I use - I use a 6" ruler to make columns for bill paying in the front part, turn the book over and keep passwords in the back.

I'm not proud. Too cryptic to be of value to anyone else. One of my better handwriting days.

How were you notified? If it was an e-mail that offered a link to reset your password as a precaution then I'd be concerned about it being a possible phishing e-mail. Might be worth a call to the bank, or resetting again by manually typing the address rather than following a link. I'd also recommend using multi-factor authentication anywhere it's available, which is most everywhere these days, and should certainly be available from a bank (if they don't offer it then I'd change banks because that should be a priority). Even if you don't have a smartphone, there is usually a mutl-factor option to have them text you a code rather than use an app.
Cybercrime is big business and everyone is a target. Even if you feel like they don't have anything they could take, just gaining control or access to your accounts is a payday because they can use that as a staging area to launch attacks against the people you communicate with. It's scary stuff. Just trying to help, I work in that world every day.

But, yeah, good advice.

Chase, Wells Fargo, & City Bank all had recent reports of phishing emails sent out. I would be really careful of clicking anything that says reset a password. When I worked compliance one of my daily duties was to check recent/active scams and send out emails . You can check it here www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/scam-alerts

I'm not proud. Too cryptic to be of value to anyone else. One of my better handwriting days. Mind blown. I’ve never been able to use the left hand side of a spiral notebook very well. Just leave it blank and move on. Doh! Flip the notebook and you have two right sides! Thanks 1dave! Well also, I usually use my phone. Hmmm

It only took me 80 years to figure it out.
