I might have a bit of a problem. It seems that I like playing with lapidary equipment as much as I like cutting stones. I built a stand alone polishing machine about a month ago, and have already scrapped it and re-purposed some of the parts. I just wanted the option to run wheels and belts as well as the flat pads. IMG_20191222_144538 by nik1924, on Flickr this was the old one, which worked well. It had an 8" leather face plate and a spot to run threaded pads. IMG_20200121_205831 by nik1924, on Flickr Here is version 2, based on a Poly arbor that I had sitting on a shelf. The plan is to primarily run everything on it with diamond paste and extender. Aside from the leather pad on the left, and possibly a thread on felt pad with cerium oxide on the right. The small wheel on the left is a 5.75x1" phenolic wheel that I made to try to eliminate undercutting. I have not had a chance to test the theory yet. IMG_20200121_203636 by nik1924, on Flickr I drilled and tapped the end of the Poly shaft to accept thread on pads, and there is an adapter on the motor shaft for a higher speed option. The arbor is set to run at about 900 rpm. IMG_20200121_203649 by nik1924, on Flickr Still running the 8" leather pad

Looks great. I am in the process of doing the same thing in order to have 2 leather buffs for polishing. Nice job.

Two little belts $32.99 + tax. But they get me out of trouble on exhaust hood calls late at night. In one of my not-so-smart moments I left my link belt on a customers piece of equipment thinking they were easy to buy. Ha.

Thanks. I ended up getting the belts from an ebay seller in Florida, what little industrial supply there is on island is ridiculously expensive. They really are nice for machines like this that would require complete disassembly to replace the belt, and the extra cost is easily justified by not needing to design a machine around a set belt length.

I use the link belts on my Texas Rocks bull wheels for the same reason, would have to take the machine half apart to just change belts. Plus they run a lot smoother.
