A person needs a good amount of time to go through all his stuff.Take a sandwich, spray bottle and enjoy it. Not many places in Texas to do this.Quite a few folks from Louisiana make it,did in the past.

Back in 2007,I tried to quit my habit of beer drinking, which I was overdoing.Found an old tumbler in my garage which I had purchased in the 70's. Looked online to see if I could find grit for it. Ran across this site.Read on it daily for a year and a half, until joining in 2009.Purchased many boxes of rocks from members on here.Gave me a new interest and haven't had a drink since.

With the hayfields going, gardening, heat and older age, keeping as busy as I want to be.Garden will start going downhill with the hotter weather here in Texas, but a lot has been made already. Always my pride and joy. Taters and onions dug. Love my thornless and no stoop backberries Thanks for looking, snuffy

Bucking 2 string 50 pound bales is Work. Years back,a custom baler would not survive making 50 lb bales.Farmers hiring them wanted heavier bales, saving them money. When you can hardly get your fingers under the wires, lookout!

snuffy I didn’t believe the bit about the nylon. Looked it up. Neat!! There are square balers as well. Couldn’t actually see the nylon, but figure it is put on as the bail exits the little bale machine. Opinion? Thanks. Pat,the square bales are bound with 2 strands of baling wire.

How do you get the hay into that shape AND MAKE IT STAY IN THAT SHAPE? Do you roll it someplace to feed the chickens or cows? The round baler rolls it up tight with big rubber belts, and then wraps it with nylon netting.Haul it with hay forks on a tractor to where we stack it end to end.Cow feed. I will have some long hours putting it where it goes. The old saying, make hay while the sun shines! snuffy

We have been busy baling hay almost everyday now.Have really enjoyed watching hawks following us as we go.We counted 16 yesterday, but didn't have my camera with me.Brought it today. They know its feeding time when we arrive! They like the birds eye view from the round bales This one had just swooped down on a mouse.Saw the mouse as the hawk flew off Same one making sure it had it. Caracara,Mexican buzzard Thanks for looking. snuffy

It's all looking good. Are those Dewberries, Blackberries? Do you use the poppy seeds? My grandmother used to make the best poppy seed Kolaches, just avoid any drug tests fro a few days. Those are thornless blackberries,Arapaho variety.Dont have to stoop and get stuck by thorns.May have to get a step ladder to get the ones on top of the trellis.I love poppy seed kolaches, but I just let them reseed the garden.

Yeah,a great sale. It was in Tyler the time I went.Took a couple hundred bucks to spend.Thought I was close to my limit, checked out,but it was only half of my budget. So picked out another load. The owner has a rock and jewelry business in Rusk, called Stone Crystals.Need to spend quite a bit of time looking through it all. Take a spray bottle and a sandwich!!

We had 4 inches of rain last night, yard and garden needed it and it washed tons of the Oak and Pine pollen away. I have 12 quarts of canned tomatoes to use up by end of May before the next crop starts coming in. It seems I will be making a couple batches of home made Pasta Sauce and Meatballs, yum, yum yum!! Hey I just counted mine, got 14 left. Some of my plants are wilted on the lower end of my beds.May lose some. Done that before. If the temps were higher would be worse.

You've got a jump on it once again, snuffy! That is one huge garden. Are you growing gourds again this year? I buy bales of hay from a feed store for mulch. Two bales more than enough for a 12' x 20' garden. A few rye seeds will sprout, but easy to pull if you stay on top of it. I wish bales of hay were only $4. When I bought some last year, I think they were over $10. Got to grow gourds Jean, planted them as a kid on the fence by my Dads garden.Enjoy seeing them grow! snuffy

snuffyIt would be right if we didn't get to see your garden in spring. What is your mulch? I think I need that here. No garden this year. jeannie moved in. Between all that entails and a work shed I'm stalled on, in making, no time for garden. Thank you sir! Scott,I am using hay, some of it rye, some coastal Bermuda grass.I can get all the large round bales I want free.Gonna keep a permanent mulch on it 6-8 inches thick.I call it my old folks garden.Pull hay aside, plant, pick. snuffy
