Plan on setting out 12 Tomato plants Monday, will wait one more week for the next 12 plants. Kale and Kohlrabi are doing great and should start harvesting both this weekend. It appears that I have lost a large portion of the Meyer Lemon tree to the hard freeze we had back in January, will wait for 2 weeks to see how much greens up. I'm at least 3 weeks away from setting my maters out. Those late frosts I don't like.

Never knew you could use marbles as media. Is this more for softer stuff? I ran them with the hard stuff. snuffy

Beekeeper posted on Craigs list looking for land. Just doing my part, since my fields are all natural and no insect pesticides. No bear here, so I am safe for that. I am lucky to have my cousin next to me that has several hives.I don't use any chemicals on my garden and fruit trees, and her bees really work em over!Years back, one season had hardly any bees, and production wasn't great. Before she put her hives in. You cant go wrong letting someone place them there. snuffy

As a test, put together small handfuls here on RTH in the buy/sell section. Charge what you will. I bet you would sell a lot. They are sooo pretty! Put me down for a handful! My granddaughters would love these!!! I think! snuffy

Thanks, snuffy , that increases my confidence in the new barrel. It just seems flimsy to me. It bulges/changes shape as the stones roll/slide around inside it. I will have to add that the last barrel I bought was over 10 years ago. They may be thinner now.Doesnt seem right that a new barrel would do that.Did you buy it from Shawn at the rock shed?If you did,I would give him a call. snuffy

Really? How so? I use 2 45C's for all stages after coarse and have never had a problem. Serious questions. Disclaimer: I bought it used, so I can't say how much the first barrel may have been used/abused. Within a few weeks it got so out-of-round that it rubbed against the frame on the side with the lower roller. (There is very little space between the frame and barrel on that side.) Rubbed so much that before I caught it the first time, it had stopped turning and left a pile of rubber residue on the edge of the frame. Another time it climbed clear out of the frame. Just going by eye, I'd say the barrel was 1/2" larger in diameter in the middle than at the ends once it got rolling. I don't have much confidence that the new barrel will fair any better over time. Sometimes it's a be-atch holding it round enough to get the inner lid in place. I'm happy with my 3-1.5, 3A and 33B, but in my (not so) humble opinion, the 45C is a poor design. Glad that your experience is better than mine has been so far. Out of round was my experience with my 45c,not thinness.Of course I dug it out of my garage after it sat there over 30 years.Had nothing but good luck after buying a new barrel. snuffy

Hi everyone. I have been away from the board for quite a while and I don't seem to see much from the members that were frequent posters a few years back. Does anyone know what happened to Mary Ann and her husband (who cut such terrific cabs)at stonesthatrock? What about "Rodney" and "secret squirrel at what was mybluerocks.com (I think the name changed to Arizona Lapidary)? what about the member in Virgina Beach who did such gret wirewraps and was a motorcycle enthusiast (or so his pic suggested? And of course the gentleman from Texaas who was a whiz at identification? I'll be sixty in march and I think my memory is going- I can't recall names so well after 3 or 4 years. I'd appreciate any update.... Thanks! Docharber Very few left on here that are from the older days.Mary Anns husband Ralph died years back.Randy,Bikerrandy from Virginia Beach posts very seldom. Mel is Sabres52 from Texas. He is the only one you mentioned that still posts regularly.I often wonder what happened to members who no longer post. This site is a revolving door that keeps on going strong and stays enjoyable,at least for me!Good to see you back. snuffy

Hi Everyone,
My wife and I have started wandering the beaches here on Whidbey Island WA and both have a real interest in doing something with the materials we've come across so far and found the site to be a real help just lurking and reading up on tumbling.
A quick question I have is: Being complete newbies at this and thinking we have some decent raw materials after reading a ton of information (books, websites), how willing are people to help identify rough stones so we can get a better idea of what we're looking at/for?
Thanks and appreciate the feedback and help
-Sean & Rebecca Moore
My daughter and family live on Whidbey Island. We visited last year and walked a lot on the beaches.Seems to be mostly granite, but I did find some black rocks with white streaks through them, no idea what they are. Good luck and enjoy the island. Military? snuffy
