Try Way Too Cool. They have a great 13 watt, long wave/ short wave 12 volt portable light for less than $500. They also have 120 volt lights that can be used in display cases. As for using germacidal bulbs, I would never use one without a filter. The filter is not only safer, but cuts out all the white light that overshadows the great fluorescent minerals.

I was just wondering if anyone is going to the Joshua Tree Fall Show? I was at the spring show and loved it. I will also be vending there for the fall show and look forward to seeing everyone again. Here is a link to their flyer. www.jtsportsmansclub.com/ShowFlyerFall2017.pdf

Thanks Phil. I checked it out but do not think those are heavy duty enough for specimens. Still looking.

I am looking for some 2" & 3" flats with lids. Anyone know where I can order?

I don't know where they will put me but just look for the Tango travel trailer with the Gems by Ray sign.

I will be set up at Vista. Many were excited about my fluorescent minerals and lights. I will have more at the show. Plus more.

The gearbest lights are inexpensive(around $25) but the kicker is the cost of the special rechargable battery. Expect to pay another $25 for battery and charger.

For the lights that I can take out the clear lens, I just replace it with the filter glass. But for the lights that will not come apart, I grind the filter glass to fit outside then use black silicon to attach and seal.

I agree with Bill. I have one of these lights and installed a filter to block the white light and it is an incredible long wave flashlight!

That light is a short wave light, but not a flashlight. UVP is a well respected brand and I would not hesitate to purchase one.

Those inexpensive LED flashlights are around 385 nm, which do emit long wave colring. But true long wave is 365nm. Those lights are much more expensive and harder to find. Someone on this thread mentioned a short wave flashlight. I do not think a shortwave flashlight has been made yet.

I went yesterday. Just do your homework and you will be fine. It was my first time and I drove everywhere ( hauser, potato patch and cinnamon bed) with no problem. Wanna go again? GF and I would love to go with a friend. Sure. We will need to coordinate a day when we are both off.
