Thank you to all who had a part in this project, that's a very nice way to remember and honor Ed.

I have made several out of the gray electrical conduit PVC pipe with industrial plastic ends. Normally make 1 gallon capacity {about 12 pound} which are 6" diameter and 10 1/2" long. They run pretty quiet, and a friend I made some for says he gets a better finish than with his commercial rubber lined barrels. Detailed information at your request.

A lot of basic machinery uses off the shelf hardware parts to make it run, your tumbler may well be one: I did a little poking around in a Boston Gear catalog today and found a gear that might be what you are looking for. It's a 24 DP, 12 tooth, 3/16 bore. Catalob # YP2412. I'm not certain this is right, but close. If you have a Boston Gear products retailer {generally an industrial supply company} available you might take your tumbler frame and the motor with the gear on it to them. I know the store in Portland Oregon is very helpful in this sort of situation, hopefully all are. The obvious reason I can't be certain this is the right gear is that you can't be certain of its exact dimensions in its damaged condition.

Might take a look at aquarium gravel at Petco if you have one, small round pieces and lots of polishable quartz super cheap in the bag I got for filler.

I think the idea of keeping it dry is that wet sandblasting media of any kind really fouls up the blasting unit, from the reservoir to the nozzle. Sticks to parts and clumps.

I have lost a couple pillow block bearings way too soon, did good maintenance but I think as with so much other stuff now the quality has slipped. You sure did a nice job on that piece of furniture.

The problem with the bottom end unit is that it won't function the TV, only change channels within the streaming system. TV on/off and its volume have to be controlled on its remote. I have one of those too, fine for watching something that runs for a long time w/o changing the volume, but it seems volumes vary so much from station to station here, and the movies that either whisper or scream. My other unit is the Streaming Stick +, it runs everything.

I went with ROKU, partly because my provider gave us two when cutting cable. Have the Streaming Stick+ on two non-smart TV's and am completely satisfied with them. I got Hulu+ for local channels and Friendly TV for some stuff they have, cut my phone internet and TV bundle by $76/mo. from cable. I don't know anyone who uses Firestick so no comparison.

Does that motor directly drive the feed shaft or does it drive the feed shaft with a v-belt like a Royal saw? If it uses a v-belt, just put a little larger pulley on the feed shaft.

I have an old hand held engraver that works well for removing soft/crumbly matrix from fossil material we found.

For the sake of the conversation, it looks like the 1/2 HP motor does have a base, probably quite narrow as compared to the 1/4. There is a clamp around the vibration ring on the motor end, and likely the same on the other end, indicating there is something underneath, possibly only a pivot rod, but still easy to mount. Another thing I thought of: I've often seen motor reversing instructions on a label on the inside of the removable cover where the power cord goes in.

I've always considered walking onto a car lot to be the beginning of an adversarial encounter, and will easily walk before losing. Sure can be fun at times.

Regarding 1dave's comment, it's easy to grind a pretty controlled hole in a bottle with a diamond point tool in a Dremel. Don't let it get too hot.

dillonf, all of the stuff I've cut up for cushioning has been purses, shoes, and anything else of a fairly substantial thickness leather obtained at local garage/estate sales. Split leather doesn't work well, doesn't hold up to the beating. Some people don't like using it as it does get a little slimey, mostly just uncomfortable to the touch as expressed by some who have tried it.

I've been using tripoli with leather scraps for cushioning as final polish for over 20 years in rotary tumblers. As mentioned in the link above, you may neeed to let it run a little longer, but you will get good results. My tumbed rock quality has drawn compliment from several people with a great deal more experience than I, and from one person who sells big volumes all over the country. Give a try, if you don't like it the experience is worth it.

How about making one, not too difficult.
