I have mistakenly picked up priority mail boxes, assuming they are flat rate-but Oh contrare. ONLY the ones that say flat rate may be mailed flat rate. After a couple repacks in the correct boxes, I learned my lesson.

Any chance of mentioning the "theme" in this voting thread, so folks don't need to look for the original thread. Afterall, it is part of the judging criteria, no?

I'm presently on the mend from carpal tunnel surgery, w/ a Guyon's release thrown in. My hope is to be able to hold onto rocks again to continue carving fire agate. You have some stellar looking rough there- I look forward to seeing how they progress- Good Luck and have FUN!

I've been using and re-using the same pound of green dop wax for maybe 10 years now. It seems thicker and not as smooth flowing as it once was. Kinda like me. LOL! Is it possible to thin it somehow? I really hate to buy new, as I'm not sure how much longer I'll be needing it. Any suggestion? If this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it.

I've always tightened my Lortones as tight as I could by hand. It takes a pair of pliers to loosen it. Never a blowout. Knock on wood...

While Lortone instructions says to fill to 2/3 capacity, I've read of many folks adjusting that upwards to 3/4 full. Perhaps too much wiggle room?

Methinks a vibe tumbler was confused w/ a flat lap vibe, no? 3 steps to polish on flat vibe lap- 220, 600, and polish. I made my own 1lb. lead weights, w/ an ingot mold purchased @ Dick's Sporting Goods, in the reloading section.

Well, here are a few pictures of my crappy little setup. Threw this together one afternoon about 5 or 6 years ago out of junk had laying around. Already had the jack, only thing I bought for this were the springs, Ace Hardware to the rescue. I just use heavy cardboard around it. Somewhat surprisingly stuff doesn't go flying that much, actually less flying pieces than I get from beating on rocks with a sledge hammer. I do wear the goggles just because. Looks like crap but it works. Zero attention was given to making it pretty.
Just happened to have a bucket of rocks sitting there so I threw one on.
Chunk of jasper from up the road a piece.
So, yeah, your Horrid Freight press will work fine. NRG mentioned log splitter - seems like several years ago someone posted about using a log splitter. If I were going to be busting a lot of rocks for tumbling I'd look at building a jaw crusher or something similar. Just some of my thoughts-worth exactly what you paid for them. Russ
Nice work! It's good to see that not everyone is attracted to pricey, bright shiny objects.

You know too much. What's your ring size, if I may ask? unclesoska, not sure I understand, the Triad guys are ok if you don't cross them and generally leave western folks alone. I have all my fingers, if that's the reason behind the question about ring size. So, the people that know people, that know people, that could send him a message, do they come from Brooklyn? Cheers, johnw Brooklyn? What Brooklyn? You're askin' questions you don't wanna know the answers. Capisce?

Where in Ohio? I know people that know people that could send him a message... unclesoska, awesome, you are my type of guy. I spent time in mainland China and know several Triad folks that work out of Hong Kong, nice people really, perhaps they could hook up with the people that know people, that know people, that could send him a message and the Triad folks would then make sure he not only returned all the goods he received, he would gladly return any and all equivalent financial interest and would commit to providing knapping services free of charge for life. First they start with a chisel on the end joint on the little finger and work up. Its amazing how quickly the person being persuaded agrees to do whatever is being asked, urahhhhh. Cheers, johnw You know too much. What's your ring size, if I may ask?

A photo of how full your tumbler is would be helpful, but I suspect 3/4 full is not enough. Others will chime in, but you may need to add more rocks and possibly ceramics or more smalls to your mix.

The stones you're tumbling are softer than ones I've tumbled. You may want a second opinion. You can also do a search on this topic, it's been covered before.
