Nope. Equilateral. More challenging Does that knife sharp points or can they be rounded slightly for actual setting? I'm thinking of giving it a go.

Rick, they are all beautiful, but the half dome is phenominal! Vince would have been proud. Thanks Robin. He did a fantastic job of finding the good rutile but some pieces tested my cutting ability to the max. Wish he were here to critique them!

Been tackling more cutting work, especially some rutilated quartz from an old stash. I worked on it with very mixed feelings: happiness at finally getting it to the wheels, and great sadness because it brought memories of my late friend Vince (hummingbirdstones2). I have ruined more good stones with the trim saw than any other way. Vince kindly took on the job of carefully trimming out some cabbing blanks from my material and he had an extremely good eye. What follows is the result. (An observation: I am totally unsuccessful at getting a personally acceptable polish on quartz using all diamond. The stones came out with a "foggy" polish even after 14K. I had to get out the Super Cerium to finally make the fog go away.) Thanks for loopking! Rutilated Oval Rutilated Half-Dome Angel’s Hair Pear Long Oval Swords Triangle Angel’s Hair I somehow left a few nice ones out - will post them later along with some variscite cabs I cut a couple of days ago. Below are some new cabs I finished along with the utilated and more to come. Mookaite Tiger’s-Eye

Why worry about it? Earth does it all the time. Yeah but the time scale is usually very different. I think of all the beautiful Morgan Hill poppy jasper and original Howardite, to name just a couple, that were busted up and tumbled in the 50s and 60s.

Maybe Mtorolite? Through my searches. I’m seeing similar Mtorolite is chrome chalcedony. Use a Chelsea filter to see if there's any red hue in light transmitted through the stone. That would confirm the presence of chroium.

Been noodling around with a few more. I did some experimenting today with various techniques I've been thinking about and spied a hunk of Snowiville variscite I've had for a very long time. Since I had the machine running I decided to work on it a little. I never thought it had much potential because it was black on both sides. Today I noticed some patterns on the side so said what the heck and started grinding. This is the surprising and, to me, lovely result: nearly 77 carats of spiderweb beauty that was hiding all this time.

I won’t venture a guess but plenty of Morrisonite shares those colors. And you did say it's fine grained, porcelain quality. : ) Agree. Morrisonite was my first thought though I'd say it's Morrionsite-like in coloration. I doubt it's real Morrisonite but could be a cousin knowing you're from Idaho (like me). I have a hunch about the area where you might have found it if it's an Idaho/Eastern Oreon jasper.

Happy Belated Birthday ! Hope the cake was good
Patty
Thanks Patty. Cake was delish! Had more goodies than I could handle: my favorite chocolate-filled churros, a box of wonderful candies made by my family's go-to French chocolatier located in Carpenteria, CA of all places, and the cake of course. I don't need any of the sweets but love them.

Happy Birthday, gemfeller! I hope you can get in another cabbing day! Thanks rockjunquie. Hands are a bit sore from cabbing after the long break. Maybe tomorrow. I don't use dopsticks so I need more exercise for long-unused muscles.

Happy birthday, Rick! I hope you had an excellent day and a good birthday cake to go with it. Thanks Robin. Just getting ready for the cake but am refusing candles -- don't want to start an out-of-control fire!

Very nice cabs! Congratulations on getting your water set up together. As long as it works, that's what matters 👍 Thanks Nate. I agree that making it work is the most important thing. So many rocks, so little time!

++2 on the Chrome Chalcedony, beautiful ! Hope you're able to figure out plumbing to stay at it. How about a very long hose that you can buy fittings to attach to a sink. Nicer than hauling & you can turn on the hot tap ! Heck, if you put a pump in your bucket, maybe you could just pump it back or out the window. Patty Thanks Patty. Yes, I plan to do pretty much what you suggest on the plumbing. I'll tap into the house's water lines, put in a mixer valve, and run a line directly to the Genie. And I'll pump the waste water through the wall into a window well which has a French drain. I'm not spry enough to do it all myself these days but finding someone to do it for a reasonable price has been a challenge. Also I've been ill most of the past year with one thing after another. Hopefully I'll get it all together this spring. Meanwhile my redneck system will have to do.

Sweet set of cabs, Rick. Just curious, are your other cabs about the same size as the Mtorolite? They look larger to me because they don't have indications of scale. Thanks Gary. Yes, I should have included a size indicator. The Imperial is a bit larger than the Mtorolite. The others, except the small Willow Creek, are in the same size range.
