and i am not the same person who sells specimins all the time.. he has a skateboard for a profile pic I have sold 4 items since I have been on this forum and have purchased more than that

truth be known. i am not sure, the crystal structure is more indicative of ruby but color is like a garnet.. i just thought i would find someone on here that had some real experience with the location..I end up getting lots of specimin type stuff i dont care about at auctions with the other things i do want.

this is a 3 to 4 mm seam and 5 quart mason jars all the stones have fire and some have multiple

mostly in the rough the color shows around the perimiter of the stones... the one shown has same color on the other side.. but prob need to cut the matrix and dead opal off? is that the thing to do?

i got about 18 lb of this opal at an auction and need to get my money back out of it how much does this sale for usually by ounce or whatever mostly 1 to 2 mm seams of color some thicker but probably keep those. definitly more colorful than pic but what can you do.. indoor lighting with phone pics any links or input would be helpful jason

thanks for the discussion on it.. I would say they are harder than 440 steel .when i try to scratch it metal shows on the stone.but they are strong in color but not face grade.Pringle South Dakota is a winner i would say..thanks again,, it came with a lot of jar opal i bought..

i use a flat lap and i find as i move towards polish thats when things can go wrong. plus i use a wet to dry on 600 sc dsc to get a good prepolish the build up of rock dust creates a finer and finer grit but its a delicate balance with the heat created...call me crazy but it seems like alchemy.with our grits and potions and heat to make jewels ..
