I would check belt tension and possibly slow down the feed rate ------ I've had some similar problems on my 18" and found that if I try to feed it too fast it (the blade) will heat up and start to warp (usually away from vise)-- then when it cools down it returns and you can't tell anything is wrong ----smaller rocks don't have enough rock/blade tension to get hot enough to warp it

I would like to find a new (to me) place to do some free gold panning this summer -----is anyone going ?? and need a "digger"----I stopped by this fall where I've been going (BLM colorado) and they had brought in a machine and graded all the holes in so you couldn't tell where you had been --don't want to dig for 2 weeks and find that it was already gone thu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

---------- just a note ----that 24" is the vise not the blade !! looks more like a 18 according to the pic ( the blade isn't as wide as the vise )

Sorry to hear that ! I got to know him when we went to Burro Creek a few years ago ---he was having back pain and stayed in camp most of the time, so I stayed with him just to hear him tell stories of his earlier days ----and what stories they were !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will be missed !! Snowdog

saw oil

This is just a question-------- how many people would buy food grade mineral oil for their saw if they could get it for around $12.00/gallon ? I've been wanting to get some oil but didn't want to spend 17-18 dollars a gallon for it. (need about 10-12 gallons and would like to have some for replacement) ----- would it sell at the rock shows if I could get it for $12/gal ?

John -- was good to meet you too !! I'm sure if we lived closer to each other we could get into a lot of rock hunting --really liked that wind polished pet wood --didn't even have to throw it in the tumbler !! I had fun at the shows I went too, but, the prices sure scared me !! seemed like most were about 10 times what I thought they should be !!

it may have the same numbers in it but it's not the same thing---------- .5% == 1/2 percent x 37400 = $187.20 .05% = 5/100 x 37400 = $18.72 .005 = 5/1000 x 37400 = $1.872

the first one looks to fit one of the old "gem master" laps -- you could do anything with them -- saw, grind, facet, etc ---I have one sitting in my barn that I could see if it fits, has holes in the top edge of the bowl for a drip tank and other things --looks like it would fit one of those and the threaded rod would keep it up from the lap plate while rotating the degree wheel

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it ---- if you wanted to save the cans and put them back in the paper wrapper for display you could, but, I don't think they are so old that they would be worth alot ----- would save you some money by using them on your first batch before buying more

Mark, go end to end, ---- the top piece should have threads on the top edge on the left end while it sits on the threaded shaft with the other end --- and the same with the bottom piece, should have threads on the left end bottom while against the shaft with the right end, and both ends are drilled for the bolts -- hope this explains it better

John, ---great report ! I'm usually at that show, this is the first time I missed it in about 10 years. I usually go gold panning up at Granite (15 miles north of Buena Vista for a couple weeks ) then do the show for gas money to get home ! This year my wife and I are heading to Yellowstone in September so didn't think I could afford two trips. I've been to all the other places too.---just wish that I lived closer!!

Mark the lewaco has a double -- if you look the brass pieces have half threads on the outside where they are bolted on , you can take them off and reverse them for new threads --another thing you can check is the little roller on the rail by the blade --sometimes my vise gets stuck if the one right by the blade has goop in it ( doesn't want to turn freely) it normally hits this about the time your rock is at the thickest part (which takes longer for it to cut) and will stall out --at times I have put a vise grip on the half nuts right where the handle screws in (tension just a little more than the spring ) and it will cut on thu -- also some times it wants a blade dressing hope this helps ---- now if you don't like the saw and want to get rid of it ? just let me know !! ha ha ! they went out of business in the mid 80's so not much chance of finding parts dave

Well, it looks like we're going north!---- first stop is "devil's tower" and then spend the night at Gillette,Wy. on monday ( labor day) we will head north to miles city and try to go to Harmon's shop up at Crane (not sure they are open but I called and she said to call them and they would open maybe) then hunt the river back down to miles city (spend the night) and go on down to livingston for tuesday night ----would like to stop at Bob Gwen's but can't find a web site on him?? anyone have any info on him ??-------- also if anyone is close and wants to get together for some fast river hunting or has a "secret spot" they want to share ---message me ----- can always bring some "stuff" with me to trade/barter for a pull off trading stop!! would also like to meet "mtmadman" or anyone else in the area----wednesday, I think we are headed into yellowstone park for three days then on down to Moab for a ballon ride (get some fossil fish at Kemmerer before we get to moab) and then head back, stop at Denver for the rock show and then come on home to dull illinois------------------am I missing anything ?? I think it's going to be a fast two weeks!!!!!
