What would be or what software do any of yall use for your business? Starting a new business where I purchase or acquire raw materials (rough stones or gemstones, leather, and/or metals), make something out of it (rings , necklaces, wallets, etc..) ? I have done the leg work already for the business license, tax id, fictitious name, etc. But rather than keeping track of everything in a file cabinet and spread sheets I was hoping to find a decent computer program to use. A lot of the programs I have looked at so far seem to cater to tracking employees hours and labor or tracking supplies and sales. Anyone know of a computer program that will work for a single employee (me) who does all the buying, creating, and selling of goods? Thank you for your time reading my post and possibly responding. RTH ROCKS!!!!

That explains it. I was wondering how I managed to not know about something like sugilite coming from somewhere close to me. Now I'm trying to get over someone having a 20 lb. piece just laying around! Yeppers, if I could find pieces like this one around here, I would spend all my time getting more. lol, I have had some pieces "laying" around for years. If I see something I like for a good price I get it. I may not use it for years , but I get when I can.

Beautiful project and thanks for the step by step. Love how you used your faceting machine to work the stone. It was interesting to see how you put it all together. Where do you get blue sugilite from Nevada? Didn't know that there was sugilite in Nevada. The Sugilite was not from Nevada, we don't any blue stones that he liked. He was set on a a stone that was a blue color that he liked and I happen to have had a 20 pound piece of Sugilite on hand. He really liked its color, so I tapped a piece off and shaped it.

I used masking tape on top edge (and the whole stone to protect it from scratches), drew the center line and then the places I wanted the post. I used a Foredom (dremel type flex shaft) with a diamond coated ball tip to put a small divot at each " + ". I used hand screw clamp:
I put the pendant top side down in the clamp to make the top flush with the clamp. Tightened it up, flipped it over, then clamped the whole thing to the drill press (table top version drill press). I centered the " + " under a 1mm diamond tip drill bit (it's so small and skinny it looks more like a needle or a brad nail with diamond coating on the tip). Put a drop of sewing machine oil in the divot and slowly drilled. I find if I make contact for 1/2 a second, raise the bit, and repeat over and over until I get the right depth I don't have any blow out or broken bits.

Howdy folks, thanks for checking out my latest piece. I must warn ya, this post is pic heavy. A friend wanted a blue Nevada pendant he could wear AND display on his desk. So after many talks with him on what he likes (he loves his home state and everything that's hand crafted) we decided on : Blue Sugilite for the pendant (in the shape of the state of Nevada, for where he was born), copper salvaged from old phone lines from Las Vegas (city of his birth) in the shape the state tree (bristlecone pine), and for this to sit on top of a piece of Conglomerate rock I brought back from a trip to one of our local mountains. The walnut base I added to give it a little something extra. Hope ya like my project.
Decided on this little nugget of Blue Sugilite
Scaled an outline of Nevada to fit the stone
Cut out a little slab Above is the front Below is the back
Picked the better side and did a rough outline Tossed a penny next to it for size comparisons
I did the slabbing and rough outline cuts on a modified tile saw (I used an AC Motor Speed PWM Controller Regulator to control the speed of the blade)
Used a awl to make the outline of NV And prepped it for the dop
I cut/polish on an American Facetor Cutting/grinding the sides Starting to take finale shape
Now the toughest part, the face. Had it all done and on the finale polish, something got on the lap and scratch the stone right down the middle. I had to completely redo the face twice, uugghh, but the finale time I was very careful and successful. Here's the backside
And the front
I like this picture because I can read the words on the lights bulbs reflection, lol
I used a draw plate to remove some of the protective coating on some of the wires so the tree would have different tones/hues
Tree starts to take shape
Working on the branches
Finished the roots and test fitting to the rock. I wound up drilling into the rock at several spots and mounted the roots into the rock. No epoxy needed, the roots firmly secure the tree.
Now for the wood base Found a piece of I believe walnut in my shop that will work nicely
Cut it to an oval and routered a little step to the edge
I used a water base polymer coating for stain protection and mild shine The 3 holes in the base match the 3 roll pins I put into the bottom of the stone to mount it to the base
Now comes mounting the clasp to the pendant. I put tape on the pendant so I wouldn't scratch it up.
When drilling into the stone, the oil turned reddish purple, looked like I was hurting the stone, lol
And there she is!! I hope he likes it (I like it, but I'm probably a little biased, lol)

Glad to hear your back up and running! Those Obsidians are very nice , along with the Jasper and Eggs. The mystery stones come from my mine. They are quartzite with gold veins, but so far the "veins" are granular in size so I sent some to Fossilman to see him work his magic on them.

I don't mind browns and blacks, as long as it still looks like wood Here's a piece I recently did:
And the backside (finished with necklace)

I will definitely have to check into that. I've know about Arizona having a lot of fossilized wood but didn't even think of any in Southern Nevada. I have been hiking and running around in the deserts out here since '81 but I've never came across any (could just not have been in the right areas). Thanks for the tip
