Howdy all, I am looking for a faceting head and mast, perhaps you have upgraded your set up and have one collecting dust? I have to wait to purchase the new fancy ones but thought if someone has an old one collecting dust, I might be able to send a few bucks your way for it . I have some homemade equipment but would like a little more precision when it comes to faceting gems. Let me know if you do, you can send me a message or post it here, which ever is easiest for you, thanks for looking, rock on.

What parts in NV are you going to? Or did you already pass through?

I will probably go with a 1735 rpm 1 1/2 hp motor, I will swing by the motor shop this weekend. Gonna spend my time and strip the whole thing down, address anything that pops up (or falls off) and put it back together and start slicing sweetness

Thanks for the tips: 1. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try and find one of theirs that matches up, also, what size pulley should be on the motor? 2. I do have some rocks, a geode , and some large ruby rough that I am just itching to get cutting on 3. lol, I called the little motor homemade because it just has a piece of sheet metal bent over covering it and it looks a lot like an old door bell motor Thanks again for the info

Any idea on what size and type of motor I need and what blade works well with something this size?

Howdy everyone, I am hoping this will be a breeze for experts I have found here in this forum, this is my latest acquisition, a good size rock/slab saw... If you can make it out, it has an interior vise/clamp for the rock on a threaded rod which is connected to a 3 step pulley with a small belt going to a (looks like) hand made motor. Next, a 24" blade that just touches the oil held in the drum. The blades' edge is not rough, but looks a lot like a continuous weld. It is attached to an exterior pulley that measures 9" across center. Unfortunately there was no exterior motor and the person I got it from knows nothing about it other than the previous owner skipped town owing them money and back rent. This was the last piece they was selling (all the other tools had been sold and the new renters needed to move in) I got it for $10.

You defiantly bring the "art", to me nature is the best artist and I just want to bring a little bit of the "art" to others. Now most "modern" stuff I will call "artsy-fartsy" , it may be fine for others but I prefer the look and feel of home made. And you got that in spades. At present time I am still working full time and only get the weekends to play, so I mostly see what everyone else is doing and plan a dozen of projects at a time in my head. I will be keeping my eyes open for more ideas I see on here. I really like the way you did the ring band and I will admit, I will probably use that style at some point in the future. Thanks for welcoming me into the fold.

Thanks for the info, I may have to glean some ideas from you . I too am more "old school" with most my workings, that and I mostly just make it up as I go, lol

I just got in some rough today, I have to sort through it all but this weekend I will be see what I can produce. Gonna be free hand faceting for a while. Either until I save up for a mast and head or find me some metal blocks I can rig up for faceting. Thank you all for the kind words, it means a lot coming from very talented people.

Thank you, hopefully tomorrow my shipment of rubies, sapphires, and emeralds will get in. (drool)None faceting quality but good enough for carving. Can't wait to see what arrives, like Christmas for me.
