The desert jasper from The Rock Shed is easy to tumble and looks great...and it's about the least expensive on the site.
2 cents,

Awesome tumbles and pix. I see that you're using Flickr as a host. How do you get them that big? The few tests that I have tried with Flickr are about a quarter of that size.
Gracias,

Interesting agates and fine tumbled shape/polish. seems I remember you collect your own. Thank you James. To be honest I like finding them out in the grasslands better than the production/polishing thereof. I also prefer trading and collecting from specific locals like petrified coral from a river in Florida (I can't 'member the name) that a good man likes to heat treat (can't 'member the name either) That might be my next post... Two more interesting ones. This one is opaque with white and orange "eyes" and black plume. This one has wavey striations almost like a Laker which it clearly is not. This is the only one I have of hundreds which is like this. This is the top side of the same rock with "eyes" and "wispy clouds" (which are common). That's all for this round. Perhaps I look into Flikr to post in the future. Thanks for looking. Gather no moss, Colin

Most NOCO agates are opaque, but quite a few are either completely non-transparent or have some mixture with perhaps quartz or jasper or idoevenoite. Here is an interesting one. In hand it has a pinkish hue with a window with some black plume.

A group. Someone described them as looking like root beer. Good description Another group Here is a group that has lines (or striations?) running through them which is uncommon. I have a few more pictures of individual examples...maybe I'll reply to my own thread...let's see.

Good afternoon. I've been away from posting pictures since the Photo Bucket debacle. I need to work on picture quality. There were some editing choices that I liked in PB; hopefully, these will suffice. All of these were collected in the Pawnee National Grasslands about 40 miles away. Here is what they look like in the field, generally encased in a white covering. That's a 1998 Suzuki DR 650 in the background. Wonderful, thumping, bike. Here they are collected and washed off. Often they have too many cracks and holes and inconsistencies that I just rough polish them in the Lot-O. I have a double Lot-O and just keep them vibrating until I have enough rough tumbled to do a proper batch. Looks like I can only post three pictures. Next up round 2.... Gather no moss, Colin

All around amazing. Daughter, Granpa's creek, self collected: perfect.

Welcome. Chuck that OJ in with everything else. It's fairly hard and won't dissappear like softer rocks. I don't think that the OJ will be ruined if you start rolling it now.

Awesome. Here is my economical answer. If you self collect hard stuff (jasper, agate, pet wood, quartz, flint, chert), then I'd go for a larger barrel. I prefer the Thumler's model B high speed (it consumes the same amount of energy as the Lortone 66/12 and runs more rocks faster)
If I didn't self collect much and/or ran softer stuff like glass or obsidian I'd get the Lortone 33b.
Keep the Nat Geo for the final few polishing stages since it sounds like you're getting good results with it.

Has anyone tried using tumbled, broken pottery shards as a filler for softer stuff like obsedian, glass, flourite, and etc?
