It's just amazes me how rough the postal service is. And, here anyways, how inefficient and lazy! If not for being cheap, I would never choose them. Yeah, definitely seems hit and miss. I've routinely shipped and received boxes 25 lbs+. Some arrive in great shape and others look like they've been carelessly tossed around.

I received the box yesterday. One corner edge was completely ripped open but the box looks full so I don’t think anything was lost. It was the corner with the velvet bags. ubermenehune do you know how many bags there were? I haven’t gone through it yet but will in the next couple of days and hopefully get it out by the end of the week. Can’t wait to go through it. Andrea Hey Andrea - Mine arrived with a tear in the exact same spot. Thought it'd hold up since i put it in a new box and tried to package it intelligently. I do not recall how many velvet bags there were. Hopefully nothing is missing.

I have some excess of the following material. Prices include shipping. All boxes approximately 3 lbs. Also open to trades. Owyhee $18 SOLD Montana $18 Flint Ridge $16 SOLD Opal/agate $15 One box left "Deer Sky" or "Wild Horse" jasper from the Owyhee mountains. Montanas Flint Ridge This material is a mixture of dendritic opal and agate. Can be tumbled, but not ideal due to the varying mohs hardnesses. I probably have a couple of boxes I can sell. Interesting variation between chunks.

Box is packed and will be en route to meviva tomorrow. What I'm keeping. Unfortunately, the picasso marble didn't survive the journey intact. What I added. Sorry for the lousy pictures. The material looks much nicer in person. Green Theme: Clear Creek plasma agate, Turkish chrysoprase, imperial jasper, mariposite Green continued....San Benito jadeite, Indian green moss agate, vesuvianite aka idocrase aka "Pulga Jade." Mushroom rhyolite and porcelain jasper; Both from Mexico. The tumbled ones aren't included.

Box has arrived! 18 lbs 2.4 oz The box is in pretty rough shape; There's a big hole on the side, but it doesn't look like anything is missing. I can have this re-boxed and ready to ship either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Last time you sold this material for $75 with shipping included. Is this different quality?

No box yet; Hopefully tomorrow.
Hope Tammy is doing okay. She's next after me, but if she doesn't check-in in the next few days, maybe we re-order the list sequence to give her more time? Thoughts?

Do not need PayPal. Just go to USPS and enter everything there. Can print shipping label, have boxes delivered, and ship from your home/mailbox. If mailbox is not big enough for box, some USPS carriers will pick up from house. If you will not be home, one can designate a safe place for pick ups and deliveries. Very simple. I have been using those services since discovering them. At one time, my safe place was the cab of my pick up. Granted I had a 100 yard driveway at the time, but the USPS came through. It's cheaper if you print labels through PayPal. I pay $12.85 for a MFRB. It costs $13.65 through the USPS office and online. SFRB is $7.05 vs $7.20 through USPS LFRB is $17.65 vs $18.90 through USPS

Generally speaking, I'm interested in all types of material, not just jasper.
I've just come across more higher-end jaspers lately, so it's kind of front-and-center right now. But overall, i'm interested in everything.

Agreed. Thanks to you too Scott. This exactly the type of information i was looking for. I like learning about and researching new types of material. A couple months ago, i hadn't even heard of things like Biggs or porcelain/sci-fi jasper before, so i definitely appreciate the vets here pointing me in the right direction.

Appreciate all the responses. Wasn't familiar with the World of Jaspers website. Good resource and beautiful photos. Some of that material is almost unreal.
I'm asking more out of curiosity and wanting to educate myself on what lapidary artists consider truly high-end material. Pietersite, seraphinite, and sonora sunrise were some other non-jasper materials that came to mind.
I love OJ, but consider it more upper-mid grade material, based on price and availability.

Not a cabber, but i'm curious what types of material (not necessarily just jaspers) are considered crème de la crème in the lapidary world.
I'm somewhat familiar with morrisonite and Morgan Hill poppy. Are Willow Creek, royal imperial jasper or Bruneau in the same category?
What other types of material are considered highly prized, rare or valuable?

Thanks all. Sounds like imperial jasper and gneiss are pretty good bets for two of the specimens. Regarding #6, fernwood, i think you're right. There are some striations and layering in the rind that could be vestiges of bark. Just doesn't look like your standard deciduous or coniferous petwood, with its unusual color and lack of distinct rings. Could it be Hampton Butte?

If it is a chalcedony and not opal, it looks similar to stuff I find around here. I believe i've heard/seen it referred to as whisky or root beer agate. There are inclusions similar to Montana agate, but the material is a darker brown and more semi-translucent.

Based strictly on appearance, rhyolite would've been my guess too. It's typically grainier, more "chalky" than waxier, cryptocrystalline jaspers, cherts or agates. Although river-worn and beach rhyolite cobble can look and feel a lot like jasper.
Perhaps it's a deposit from glacial drift.

Welcome to the forum.
To echo what's already been said, most rocks i tumble stay in the coarse grind/shaping stage for at least two months, but I check my barrel twice a week and constantly cycle new material in and remove any stones ready for stage 2.
I also use a Model B, but it's exclusively for stage 1. To help alleviate my impatience, I have a second tumbler (lot-O) for subsequent stages.

Send some late night text messages and offer to show them your "petrified wood."
