At Quartzsite, a seller near Tony Funk had the Lortone 10" stainless steel saw with blade, cover, and motor for $570. Great deal. Lynn

Thanks for the bump 1dave! If stuck in the sand deflate your tires to 5 or 10 psi you can drive right out and to the nearest air pump. Learned in at OBX I got my wife's van stuck in the sand at the Swell. Deflating the tires would not have helped in that situation, as the bottom of the van was sitting on sand. I had to dig sand out from under the entire van before I could move it. You should have seen my blue jeans turned red as the local dirt! Lynn

Yes, It's coral. It looks very similar to red horn coral found in Utah. Lynn

I've had my oxygen concentrator for over a year. I went from Acetylene/Air to a Smith little torch. I have purchased several now for friends. I've found most of them on local Facebook sales groups or a local thrift store. I've paid between %0 - $60 each. Lots of people just want to get rid of them. It costs about $8 for the fittings to connect it to your Oxy hose on the torch. Lynn Good to know! Are you happy with the switch? The Smith Little Oxy/Acetylene torch lets me get a smaller, hotter flame for more precise work. I'm not doing much precise work, just basic soldering bezel and rope to back, and bail to back. So I'm not seeing all of the benefits over Acetylene/Air. Someday I'll be better friends with my torches & have more to say about them. As far as the concentrator doing it's job, no problems. Lynn

joshuamcduffie This was one of the coolest trip reports I've seen in a long time & it didn't even include rockhounding! I love the photos of the huge wheels. I like the bracing in the first couple of pics with the guy holding agate to wheel. That actually looks more comfortable than standing or sitting at a modern machine, although some modern padding would be better than wood. Lynn

Currently transitioning from eagle mountain to West Jordan. Welcome from Cedar City. Where are you? Lynn I will be at the Wasatch Gem Show in April in South Jordan at the Equestrian Center. I'm usually at the end near the entrance. My booth neighbors last year were Vince Allred & Ty Lamph (Utah Dump Digger). If you make it to the show, stop by & introduce yourself. Lynn

I googled, but couldn't find anything about this Taco Fest you listed. Rocks & Tacos always get my attention!
BTW, the Pow Wow is Wed - Sun, so 15th - 19th, not 20th unless they've extended it until Monday. Lynn

I'm hoping to take our rock club to the Opal Hill Fire agate mine near Blythe, CA during the Pow-Wow weekend in Jan. It's listed in the Gem Trails of So Cal book. The phone number provided is disconnected. A web site I found said it may be under new ownership. Does anyone know if the mine is offering fee digging? Contact info?
I went south on Wiley Wells Rd last Jan and hunted the non-fire Desert Chalcedony that is found all over the desert. I found 2 pieces with fire. I'm sure there's more up in the hills to the east of WW Rd.
Even if there's no fee digging available, does anyone know of the best area to hunt Fire agate in that area?

micropterus101 You have 2 things going for you - Good material & pleasing cab shapes. Some people waste their time cabbing low quality (ugly) material and/or they have no feel for pleasing shapes. Keep it up! Lynn

nik With all of the work you've gone through to improve performance on the 60 grit wheel, I'd say you just got a lower quality wheel than your 120. There's probably no way to improve its performance. Lynn

I made a jig to hold my flex shaft handpiece in position over a tray with water to cut the groove. I bought diamond groove cutters like what's shown in Drummond Island Rocks 's tutorial. It would be easy to do something similar for a Dremel. The sliding wedges let me vary the depth of the cut.
And why is my water red? I cut lots of jasper! Lynn

NevadaBill The seat belt strap in your photo looks like synthetic material. It may not soak up the water, which helps it spread it over the entire width of the wheel. If that's what's happening, try cotton webbing like the karate belt material. Lynn
