Hoping to catch you inbound if possible. We were in the green tubes π after my dunk in that cold water couldn't imagine and didn't Thank God, come to a large waterfall. It is a great little town. Sounds great Melissa. Give me some ETA and date info if possible so I can bathe . Helen has been a big attraction for many years. Kind of a Switzerland look alike. If you get a chance could you inquire if those folks have ever seen that high grade yellow/green mountain soapstone ? ETA: This Saturday August 5th, between 12:30-2. I text you earlier today. I'm right there with ya on needing a shower π

Y'all come see me on the inbound or the outbound. I am no competition for German town Helen. That place is fun. That cold water sure looks inviting. Great find. Looks like school is paying big dividends. I see you have a degree to hang on the wall. Now melting glass is an insane skill. Gotta work fast and be a serious artiste. Amazing work. Pink inner tubes ? lol. That ain't the real thing !! Hope you didn't go off that 100 foot waterfall. Hoping to catch you inbound if possible. Those are amazing! May I ask, what do you use to oxidize your silver? The Variscite ring is my favorite. Thanks Mel, I use regular plain ole' liver of sulfur. Just crush up a little in some screaming hot water and let the piece soak for a bit. One can lasts forever. www.riogrande.com/Product/Midas-Liver-of-Sulfur-8-oz/331030Thank You In my recent class they used another product called Black Magic an I didn't care for it. It was very hard to control its effects and didn't in my opinion give a natural antique finish that I was looking for. It could have been operator error too.

Warning: If you are here anticipating my class going as well as ( fantastic5) Ann's You will be disappointed! My class came and went. Pros: I'm pretty darn good at soldering, I learned several polishing techniques and lastly, my creative juices stop flowing under a dead line π. I finished (sorta) a ring an a pendant. My pendant, when I find it again, will be transformed into a bracelet. Seriously thinking about taking the bail of of the pendant, cold connecting it onto an old leather belt that I'll repurpose into a bracelet. For some reason it screams I NEED WARM BRASS AROUND ME. The week wasn't a total wash. We went up early and mined at Rose Creek all day and brought home awesome stuff (will post pics another day/different category). We spend 2 days in an awesome town called Helen, GA. Went inner tubing: , , Tasted the local food and drink: , Shopped: My sis had this Hand Blown for me. Isn't the rock pick the coolest thing EVER , . I leave again this Saturday. Going through Atlanta ( jamesp), staying in Summerville, Ga Saturday night to Rockhound for Summerville Agates ( fantastic5) come join me, Ann and Jim! Then off to William Holland again for a Cab class! Whooo I'll be glad when summer wines down.

Have you two gone parasailing there? The water/view has to be amazing from a few hundred feet up. No parasailing Capt'n. I'm scared of heights and to my knowledge no iguana meat haha
Will figure something out. I am spoiled by the Hogg Mine. I should take a trip down there and stomp around. i doubt the area has had much fresh grading, it is out in the sticks. Maybe it has become more commercial. Ah, I will look on google earth
jamespJim my truck will go any where I tell it to. I'm just good like that. I was reading their web site and they have a few different ways of hounding there. A few extra fees for what seems better access than the date announced digs. Now if you want to make it an adventure and root around in other areas we could possibly stumble upon that will take more time. I could do that July 22-23. Heck not like I only have to visit on William Holland trips. We can always get up an old fashion weekend scouting and digging trip!!

Yeahbut . . . methinks the caves with tongues sticking out all formed within a month of each other. I never saw any mention of how thick the layers were, but I'm guessing the purple Zoo Member at 30 feet and the pink Barnes Member the same. I'm guessing around 20,000 years ago the granite bases of the Papago Buttes protruded perhaps 50- 100 feet above the valley floor. A. The purple layer came roaring down the Salt River Canyon in an ice melt flood, carrying 2 foot chunks of meta-rhyolite and buries everything 30 feet deep in rock filled mud. It dries. time passes. B. Perhaps a thousand years later a HUGE flood came ripping down, packing up to 15 foot diameter granite boulders and again covers everything about 30 feet deep. C. Almost immediately water seeps down into the clay in the purple layer and on the slopes, the purple starts sliding, dragging purple and pink with it, forming the caves. D. More and more floods scour the valley, deepening it, making the buttes higher. I really enjoy reading all of your post and technical discussions on all things geology! Since I've only been studying, reading and learning for 2 years, I just haven't retained enough knowledge to participate intelligently in the conversation. Keep it up!!!!

Let's see what's happening closer in melhill1659. What are y'all after in Summerville ? If you get a chance could you ask those guys up at the school if they know where soapstone deposits are. Killer soapstone in those hills near your school. We oughta set up a trip to Hogg Mine if you've never been. I have been thinking about going down there and scouting a bit. Been a long time. There Do you go I-20 or cut down to I-10 ? We go I-20. Never been to Hogg Mine but have heard good things! Let's Go! Summerville trip (I'm thinking Summerville Agate) will be the Sunday we actually have to check in to WH. We're checking in early on Saturday to go sluicing and won't have anything we have to do until 5 Sunday afternoon. So plans aren't set in stone, so to speak. I'll ask about the soapstone hon and hope to see ya!
