This post is motivation for me to get back to it! Pics are beautiful. You can almost feel the glassy finish through the screen.

Didn't tumble for a while. Had some barrel issues ect. and took a break for a while. I just loaded up a couple barrels and can't wait to get back to the process. One barrel has jamesp coral and one barrel has some central south dakota coral. (Or at least that's what I'm told.
I'm glad to be back. I've missed you guys!!!

No. They have more of a matte finish but I like the patterns in them.

I wish I knew. They came out of a pasture in central South Dakota.

Sorry I've been away for so long. I was in a community theater performance and it took up most of my extra time. I was still able to complete some tumbles during that time. Most of these are self collected and there is some coral from jamesp as well. Group shot: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Coral Thanks for looking!!!

I really like number 9 - the contrast is awesome. ;-) Thanks! That's one of my favorites too!

They look wet ! Great polish. Nothing like polishing up your own finds, especially from the local hood. If you can polish white quartz(2nd photo) without frosting it you have arrived. Remember how you did them...repeat your success. Thanks James! I almost got to move one piece of coral out of rough last night. Very tempting. They are looking great though.

Nice batch. I really like the "window" into #3 (or maybe that's just a color change - but it looks a little clear). I liked seeing that one tumble through as well. I wish I could have gotten it to photograph better.

Nice shape and shine! A lot of those stones look to me like quartzite, which is as hard as quartz but is formed differently. Quartzite often has impurities like iron in it, and the impurities can give it many different colors. In my area, I find it in mixes of white, red, orange, pink and yellow, but mostly white and red, similar to the stone where you ask if it can be multi-toned. Your screen name suggests you are from SD, and the Black Hills have lots of quartzite, so perhaps that's where your quartzite traces back to. I am in more of the central part of the state. We have a couple natural gravel pits behind me that I collect in. Thank you for the quartzite insight. I bet that is what quite a bit of this is.

I like that red jasper (quartzite?) ... did yours hint at the colorful details before you tumbled it? I've been surprised by plain looking red rough that got pretty after tumbling. Nice rocks and nice polish, and good pics to boot. Really like the quartz too, you got some nice intact pieces there. I'm getting a bit better at telling what red will come out with depth and what won't. I had this piece that didn't have any spark at all when it came out. Sometimes it's a complete surprise though. Luckily I like surprises!

Here's my latest batch. I'm quite pleased if I do say so myself. Thanks for looking! 1. Little quartz 2. Couple other group shots 3. Like the color differences in this one. 4. Just a rock 5. Pretty quartz 6. Love the smoky color 7. Red swirls 8. This looks like something grew in it 9. Can quartz be multi toned? 10. Flat and round. 11. Woody 12. My favorite. Some of these got an it of a rerun and some may get run again for some bruising but I adore them.

Thanks.
Just got some AO 80 in the mail so hoping if I rerun some of these in the tumbler it will get the pieces that are polishable to a better sheen.
