I finally got around to bringing home a tach and checking my barrel speed. disappointing 25 rpm. forgot when I was calculating for my puleys I had added some extra to my shaft for hose. I was guessing at hose thickness and shooting for close to 40 rpm. od of hose was a little smaller than my guess. sleaved it now running 37 rpm for 8 inch barrel. sound about right?

now if that isn't downright chivalrous of me to let the competition know she had 1 more guess coming. I'm cool with it as long as that wigglinrocks guy doesn't win with "a lot".

The tension is getting thick as competition will soon be over at 7:pm tonight. The contestants clutch their rocks as they review their answers and those of the others. Drocknut checks his bank account to make sure he can cover the shipping for a big box of rocks. The onlookers go silent as they await the announcement of the winner . . . haha love a sence of humor. good show only one small error. drocknut is a female lol.

ok in all seriousness I bought a box of her last mixed stuff and was like ok kinda big but still has some that are nice deep reds. until I started breaking them up. (didn't really feel like sawing down 25 lbs or so for tumbles). some of them were way way better than they looked on the outside. almost makes you feel guilty about breaking them down. and I was really drawm to the blues in box 3. not to say the other boxes were "junk".

my wife says I have to tumble up some of the 100 plus pounds of rocks I bought in the past few weeks b4 she will let me get anymore :-(. I think I need a bigger tumbler or a new wife still deciding. funny how she said she wanted a tumbler and I'm the one doing all the work. I don't feel bad now anyway box 3 is already sold lol. Well gee, I'd say get a bigger tumbler and a new wife...lol. are you hinting at something? you do have "nice hands" please send me a pic. of your tumbling equipment lol.

Thanks. My smallest tumbler is a 4 lb, and I have a QT-66, so I'm thinking I'd be OK, since you mentioned 3 lb barrels if I recall correctly. I don't have access to a saw right now. Guess I just need to get a price. Regards. Dave yes I do have 2 of the hf dual 3 lbs tumblers I use. but run my coarse grinds in 8 inch homemade barrels on the diy tumbler I nicknamed woody. so some of my rough is quite smaller by the time it sees the 3 lbs barrels anyway.

I was thinking of heading up to bartons mine this summer(supposedly one of the biggest garnet mines in the world) since its only a couple miles away. looks like some of the stuff ive seen come out of there when I was looking it up. downside is no hammering. but I was thinking of getting some of the good sized chunks and working them at home. garnetminetours.com/mines.html

mine was perfect for tumbler food what was to big for tumbler was not so big the hf 7 inch tile saw couldn't get through it. some(not all) was river tumbled saving a lot of time in coarse grit. I liked the rough box better than the cuts. my box had quite a bit of petwood. I hope the price didn't go up cause I just paypaled him for another box.

yepper drill out pilot holes in the pvc or the screws will most definetly break the heads off going in. I countersunk the screw holes in the uhmw and used just plain old 1 1/4 sheet rock screws. guess I should have taken some pics of the barrel build. the lid tightening bolts are carriage bolts recessed a little into the umhw. not a lot just enough to put the head flush with the uhmw. been running a month and showing very little signs of wear. when the heads lose their domed shape ill simply change them out. judging by wear in past month I figure they will go easily a year b4 replacement is needed. First, beautiful tumbler. You're my hero! Next, on the barrels, also, good form! Would you mind, maybe even on another thread in homemade equipment, share some more pics of your barrels? when I make another barrel ill take pics of some of the steps I took like hot glueing the umhw to the pvc and using a guided router bit to cut them round. they may be smaller 6 or 4 inch as I think I'm gonna make a second set of rollers down below.

Hi there. I don't know much about thundereggs. What's the difference between the contents of the $85 boxes and the ones you sold a couple weeks ago for $60 and $45? Quality or rarity? richardsons rock ranch charges 1 dollar a pound for the self picked unopened thundereggs. that being said many of us live nowhere near Oregon. I was happy with my purchase at 60. I don't make jewelery or have an esty shop ect to recoup the investment. I bought them out of pure curiosity of what will be inside once I cut them. 85 would have been a little rich for my budget. although some others may cut 1 nicely solid agatized 1 and recoup the price of the whole box with 1 nice cab. so I'm glad he started low and worked up to see what the market would bear(I certainly benifitted) . obviously the price was not to high as someone bought it and the last box sight unseen. I would much rather that he post a sale at a lower price and work up too see what they are worth than to see a posting for a ridiculous price that will never sell. plus the first 2 boxes sold fast a good indicator they were below value. ps. when asked he was honest and didn't claim higher quality or rarity.

Could throw the rocks in the washing machine on a soak cycle followed by gentle cycle . Tide would be the detergent of choice . come on now everyone knows your supposed to use the dishwasher
