I know little to nothing miket, still learning as well. BUT, I've found that on the 600 wheel (that's usually the 3rd from the end on the right) you want to spend at least twice as much time as you do on the other wheels. When I first started I would coat the stone with magic marker, grind it off & then do it again to force myself to stay on that wheel long enough. I use the end lap with my polishing compounds with some smooth leather spin on discs I got from Cutting Edge Supply. Patty

I though I was doing pretty well with the dremel and vibe, now I'm starting the learning process all over again. I know I picked up a few skills the other way I guess. 😁 I like the magic marker trick- that would condition me to stay on that wheel for the correct amount of time. I really do like the canvas thing that Jason talked about. It seems like it would be more cost effective and it's simple. Thanks again!

Yup the canvas does sound cheap & simple. Does jasoninsd use the same canvas for the polishing compounds I wonder ?
Heck, if Jason uses a certain technique , we KNOW it works !
You'll get it miket Patty

You'll get it miket Patty I do not use canvas for the Cerium Oxide. I use these from eBay and cut them into a circle to go on my end disk: www.ebay.com/itm/141799880274*I had these on me "watch list" for a week or more...then all of a sudden I got an offer of $40 from the seller...so it might be worth "watching" these for a bit...or throw an offer out on them I was originally using Cerium on leather when I was using the slant cabber...but these work amazingly well and last for quite a long time. So...you're looking at a polishing pad for less than $1 that will last for months...or longer.

jasoninsd , would you say they are like the CO film that came with the KN cabber, right ? Just a better price square ? Thank you, Patty

I got a chance last night to work this one a little more, per hummingbirdstones suggestion. I believe that I achieved a slightly better polish but not quite what I was hoping for. I'll have to order some cerium oxide and try that next. Here's a couple of pics- I don't really see any scratches left...

I'm not seeing any scratches either, miket. It very well could be one of those stones that just look "sleepy". Give the cerium a try and see if it improves at all. If not, then it's just the rock. I still think it's pretty, though.

So I tried to put the new wheels on this morning and discovered that I may need a spacer. Does anyone have a suggestion for what I can use to make one myself instead of ordering some?
Thanks! 🙃

Here's my next attempt- again, not the polish I would expect. I'm not giving up- I still think I should be able to get a better polish than what I get in the vibe. Maybe I'm wrong?

miket , I see grinding scratches on the stone. The problem, I think, is it's simply not prepared properly for the polish stage. It takes a bit of practice and patience to learn the sometimes rather tedious process of completely eliminating all the scratches from the previous sanding (or grinding) stage. I don't know the sequence of wheels you're using but it you have a 240 or 280 soft wheel it's often the key to getting rid of those sneaky grinding scratches that are often obscured by water on the cab or a superficial sanding job on finer wheels. No amount of polishing will yield a top finish on a surface that's not ready for that stage. Advice: invest in a 10-power loupe to inspect for scratches between stages on a DRY stone. An excellent brand at a reasonable price is the Belomo 10X loupe, Keep at it! You'll get there.

I'll spend some more time on this one and see if I can get it a little better... 🙂
