EDIT - Added some photos of test slices on page 2.
Robin and I just bought some rough. Bit the bullet you might say, but it came up unexpectedly so we decided to go for it. We're always on the lookout for good Crazy Lace, but the Serape is a type we've never had.
We'll be blasting the dirt and spiderwebs off of the lace as time permits, and will probably put together some boxes at some point.
Three really nice "landscape boulders" of the Serape (notice the full size milk crate beside them) and a piece of Rhyolite (EDIT - have found photos online that show material like this also called Serape.) that still has what look like Crazy Lace remnants on the side of it. It has cool fine-lined patterns in it and a smooth surface that should polish well.

That is awesome! I'm really happy for you guys. Crazy lace is a favorite of mine. That looks like a lot of fun to look through.

Nice little "impulse" buy! It sure beats my last impulse buy of a candy bar in the checkout line at Walmart! LOL Do you know if the Crazy Lace was recently mined, or is it "old school"? Love the Serape boulders! The stuff I've worked really does polish like a dream!

hummingbirdstones2Great looking batch of nodules Vince and Robin. Opportunities like that don’t come along often. You need to jump on them when you have the opportunity.

That looks like a nice acquisition. That's got to be fun to slab crazy lace. I'll be keeping an eye out for offered boxes or slabs.

Getting back to the saws soon Vince? Looking forward to seeing some great slabs from this lot.

Thanks, perkins17 . This stuff has always been a favorite of Robin's. It was too "disorderly" for me at first, but I like it better now.
jasoninsd - Can't say I really tried to resist the "impulse", but did think about it for a bit before pulling the trigger. We've never bought this much of any one thing all in one buy before. But, to paraphrase Starguy , the time to buy something is when you see it. This rough has been outta' the ground for at least 15 years.
I will be "investigating" this rough as soon as possible, gemfeller . I'm more curious than anyone about how it looks inside.
Will post some photos on here after I get a few pieces done, and will try to PM anyone who might want some rough before the boxes "go public".

Vince just showed me this part of one of the rocks. If it all looks this promising, I'll be a happy camper. Close up:

Getting back to the saws soon Vince? Looking forward to seeing some great slabs from this lot. Rick, he better. Our slab supply was severely depleted at the show last month. Funny aside - the lady we bought this from actually bought 2 amy sage slabs from us at the show.

The investigation begins - here are both ends of one rock. Lots of variety in the lot we got, so I'm sure there will be surprises all through it.
After the group shot there are the faced sides of the two heels, then the best one of the bunch. This rough is unlike any I've cut.

The red lace looks like old-time Crazy Lace. Nice.

Have some photos of the last tray of rough (wet) after I blasted them with a high-pressure nozzle. All this is unfaced, but it shows the "old-lace" patterns somewhere on each one. Even the "white" one has that pattern - it's just really subtle. This stuff is so old the surfaces are all oxidized(?) and dull until wet.
Numbers one, four, and nine show both ends (or sides) of the same piece.

Most of this rough would be best for a 10" or larger saw. These pieces are mostly 4-6 inches on the longer sides.

Good looking stuff. Richardsons had a big load of the Serape years ago and I got some chunks out of their sphere pile. Also got some from a mexican vendor at Q 2021 along with some rosetta lace. It has never disppointed.

It's still on Richardson's price list for $5/pound, plus whatever their UPS shipping cost is. That was the lowest price I could find anywhere online.
So, with that in mind, we're going to do RTH boxes for $4/pound plus flat rate shipping. 15 pounds in a MFRB, and I think 30 pounds will fit in a LFRB. Looks like we will have ten medium boxes worth of the mix that was in those buckets. I'm going to finish weighing them out this evening.

I'm on board, sent a PM. Are you starting a sale thread on the sales page?

Thanks Rockoonz. You (and one other member) are now already on the list. I'll be able to get boxes and photos for a sale thread by this weekend.
Just finished dividing them up by weight last night. Made five piles according to what I could see after washing them, and pulled from all five piles for each box so they'd all have equal variety.
Thanks for your interest.
