Ok, does anyone know where I can find (or how I can engineer around the need for) a shaft adapter that has one end (female) which receives a D-shaped 1/2" shaft and the other end (female as well) tapped to receive 1/4"-20T threads?
I have a used 1/3 HP motor I was going to use in a cabbing machine build. However, I decided instead to hedge my bets by buying a better 1/2 HP farm-duty motor with F/B class insulation for the cabber. I want to use the adapter described above to attach a Crystalite Flex-O-Disk directly to the 1/3 HP motor's shaft.

Are those really D-shaped shafts you are dealing with or just flats for setscrews to tighten on? I've never seen a d-shped motor shaft, especially on a farm duty motor, which is pretty much a universal use motor.

As quartz pointed out that's a standard 1/2" shaft. The female fitting will have a round hole and you line up the set screw so it tightens on the flat of the shaft. The pulley in your picture has a round hole and it's on the shaft with flat side (D shaped). Almost all fractional HP motors have a shaft with a flat spot. Make sure that you always tighten the set screw on the flat! Adapters are readily available for the motor shaft but most will have a 1/2 male thread on the other end. That's what I used to build my flat lap.

Kinda pricy adapter I have no idea of your tools and capabilities. I would go cheaper and buy a 1/2" shaft coupling. Cut a chunk of shaft off an old motor. Drill and tap threads and put it in the coupling and put the coupling on the motor.

rockbrain, you got me thinking about this problem in a different way and I came up with a solution that costs less than half the price of the Crystalite adapter!
I'm just going to take the flanges off and screw the thread adapter onto the shaft adapter. Problem solved!

That looks like a good solution as long as you're rotating the right direction so it doesn't come unscrewed. I'm not familiar with the Crystalite stuff at all, is your motor the right rpm?

That looks like a good solution as long as you're rotating the right direction so it doesn't come unscrewed. I'm not familiar with the Crystalite stuff at all, is your motor the right rpm? The motor spins at 1725 rpm. The spin direction is reversible. Conveniently, it was already wired to spin the correct way. I have been using the aforementioned setup frequently since September 15th and it has been working out well. Thanks again for the help everyone!
