My wife hates computers. Last week one of my daughters helped her register on my proboards site.
I happened to walk past during her ordeal ad noticed they had her jumping through all kinds of hoops that I never had to.
How much has that changed? It looked to me like they now want a whole lot of personal data that is none of their business. When were you born, how tall are you, what color eyes, . . . well, that is my guess at the questions that were being asked.

Interesting. Sometimes sites that require a registration make those kinds of questions/answers optional...which I always "opt" out of answering them!

Probably statistics that are optional, like Jason said. Folks are pretty good at blurring the distinctions between required and optional.

1dave I'm not sure what you were seeing on your end but I just registered two different test accounts on my test forum and there was only one minor change that I noticed. The personal information they requested was the same as I always remember it to be. The 'capcha' has always been there but maybe you got into one of those "how many of these photos show trains" versions of capcha? This is the only change I could spot - I believe this used to be a link they would email you but now you have to copy the activation key from the email and post it in this line.

They had been at it for a while and were battling the "how many of these photos show trains" versions of capcha, and it went on from there.
