I am looking to simplify and make life a little easier on clean outs. I'd like you input: If you already had a Thumler UV-10 like I do would you get an additional bowl for it so that clean outs are easier OR would you buy a whole new machine like Ray tech vibe? I picked Raytech because it's what I can find right now.
Benefits to either choice are opportunity to keep polish separate from grit.
Drawback to Raytech is additional cost (3-4 x bowl cost), relatively unfamiliar with the unit.
Benefit to Raytech is ability to run two batches at once.
What are y'all thinking? Thanks!

If finances aren't a concern, then I'd be going with the additional unit...just for the reason that two units could be running at once.

I'm hoping someone who does have experience will chime in for you. Well...I do actually have a TV-5, but I haven't used it for rocks. I have it to tumble my wrapped pendants. The bowl on the TV-5 does seem like it would wear out faster than UV-18 bowl...as the UV-18 seems like it thicker or more sturdy.

A Raytech is going to be much louder due to a plastic bowl. It also has a slight different learning curve due to the flat bottom compared to a UV round bottom bowl. It also tends to slow down more when the slurry gets thick compared to a UV.
Having worked with a Raytech, I'd opt for a new UV-10 bowl

That would be my #1 choice. brybry in regards to the volume have you used both Thumler's and Raytech and found the Raytech louder overall? Thanks!

I've run a UV-45 and a UV-18. Both are quieter than the Raytech. The Raytech itself would be fine if the bowls weren't hard plastic. If one could swap the Raytech bowl for a UV mini bowl, it would likely be great. It's the bowl that sucks. The one other drawback is if you burn out the motor on a Raytech, it's time for a new machine. The Raytech isn't really designed for motor swaps.

Being able to replace motor (Or not) is a big one for me. The bowl sounds more and more appealing.

Do a saved search on eBay for a UV-10.
Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace. I scored 2 UV-45s shipped for less than a new one.
May take awhile but deals do pop up periodically.

I have a Raytech TV-5. It is loud, so I use two different-sized cardboard boxes (one is the original packing box of the tumbler) to enclose the tumbler with enough ventilation, and check the decibel to make sure each box does suppress the noise a little bit. I also need to check the bowl at least once a day to see if I need to add some water.
I would like to get a UV something or Lot-O one day once any reasonably priced is in stock.

Well I went with the new bowl for now. My goal is to get another UV-10 or as suggested, find a used one. I'm all about used, esp now that I've had to tear down and rebuild one. Less daunting. Thanks to each of you for your input.

Someone posted a link last week or so to a shop that has a version of the UV-10s in stock and reasonably priced but don't remember who

I took a look just now. They look as though they're shop branded Thumlers. I know nothing about this company. Anyone else heard of them?
