I customized my vacation so it would work with the BBQ.

It is pretty much the rockhound event of the year. Sure there is Tucson and Denver, etc. but Quartzite is essentially the rockhound and lapidary Mecca of the year with arts, crafts, jewelry, self promoted items, etc sprinkled throughout. My best description is a town wide swapmeet with the focus on rocks, minerals, and lapidary with many of the dealers being the artisans themselves, the miners who recovered the stones, etc. Many members here will have booths at the Pow Wow and Desert Gardens. Also I’ve been informed by a member of our club who knows them personally the Aussies will be at Desert Gardens this year in their usual spot. I’d imagine they have a ton of exciting material since they have been stuck over there since the beginning of Covid. Glenn Archer said he would be there, John Bennett has already started selling off all of his stuff and will not be coming back. Tony

I’m considering going, anyone know what it takes to get a booth/vendor space? I don’t have a business selling rock, but it would be nice to bring enough rough to cover the trip expense. Here is the website for the show/promoter. It has contact info on it, so it's probably best to hear the details from them. No linkie.

The rock festivities start in Quartzsite AZ around the 1st of January then most of it moves down to Tucson for the big international gem shows starting in February. We typically have an RTH meet up around the 3rd weekend of January. Oh ya way way way too far from Ohio for me to drive, I have made that drive, I have a Sister in AZ its a long ass haul vance71975Probably a 40 hour trip with potty breaks added in. I think it was 36 hours from New Mexico when we came from there to Michigan

He told me that booth cost is $800 and it is a three week show. The other shows have different prices but all are pricey. I heard Desert Gardens increased their prices and several years ago Tyson Wells Gem and Mineral Show was $600 for two weeks but that may have changed too. Just look up Gem and Mineral shows in Quartzsite and you should be able to see most of them with contact information. PowWow is in mid-January and runs for 5 days with cost of booth fees depending on where the booth is located and how big it is.

I will be selling at PowWow again this year although I'm considering other options for next year considering how badly sales were last year. I'll have to look up my booth numbers (and see if they changed them again) and I'll post that information on this thread.

Just looked up plane tickets. $284 for round trip from Redmond. Honestly not bad at all. I’ll need to start looking into accommodations within the month and get it all planned out.

Scott - Eva and I really enjoyed hanging out with you and the missus at Tony's place. Lets get together for some rockhounding this time around. I know you guys spent some time in the Wiley Wells area but I don't remember if you found anything exciting or worth going back? We've only been in there once and we were on a return trip from somewhere so as I remember it we only ended up spending about two hours at the Hauser beds, laying on our sides digging in the ash layer and only bringing home about a 1/4 of a bucket if even that.

Tommy we tried to get to Pebble Terrace ( if you google it the site should come up ). Key word being tried, the road had about a 1/2 mile run thru loose silt and we started bogging down and I didn’t want to risk it it the 2 wheel drive Pathfinder. This was about 6 miles away from the collecting site lol. That is a awesome invitation and sounds great Tommy, however I haven’t been to Wiley Wells area in about 15 years so couldn’t vouch for any sure fire spots out there. I do have the GPS book for Wiley Wells that has many locations, this book is about from 2005 so not sure on those places now. I will try to touch base with one of our club members, Dave, that did a recent trip out there with Lapidary Dave on his YouTube channel and they were filling buckets with eggs. Rascal seldom is at the club when I’m there but I will try to get in touch with him thru another member.

We'll be there, working with Dianne at Pow Wow again. Probably be around for a few days before and a few days after.
