My girl is doing a couple pieces of jewerly for the people next door, and this is the piece she wanted something to match. However, she was told it is malachite. It does NOT look like any malachite I have ever seen, nor does it match any malachite photos I can find online. So does anyone have a guess what the Actual Stone in this piece of Jewerly is? Sorry about how small the pic is, I cant seem to make it any larger.

I enlarged and sharpened your photo. It looks like variscite to me.

I enlarged and sharpened your photo. It looks like variscite to me. Thanks for enlarging the pic Beth! I was thinking Lily Pad Jasper potentially. If it is Variscite, I'd be apprehensive about putting it in a bracelet. It's softer that Lily Pad Jasper and would be more prone to damage/dings/scratches. Bracelets get "banged" around more than pendants or earrings...

I thought that would have been an unusual material to put into a bracelet due to it being a "softer" rock...

vance71975 It's Clay Canyon variscite from Utah. It's a rare and expensive variety of variscite. It's no softer than turquoise. I have a similar piece in a bracelet I can post if anyone's interested. If you're doing repairs or other work on it be careful: it likely can't be replaced because it's basically extinct.

Good thing I was just "questioning" it being Variscite rather than insisting it wasn't! LOL Great ID on this one gemfeller!!

I would love to see your Piece if you would like to share a photo of it!

This stuff was mined from about 1937 to 1940 from the Little Green Monster mine. Do a Google search for more info -- it's interesting. The variscite is high value mainly due to its associaed minerals like wavellite and crandallite etc., and of course its rarity. In addition to the bracelet image below I'm adding a link to images of variscite from this location. Worth taking a look since it more closely resembles the stone in your bracelet than in mine. duckduckgo.com/?hps=1&q=clay+canyon+variscite+images&atb=v181-1&ia=web

That is indeed some nice variscite in both examples. Is she expected to find matching material for the necklace and earrings? That would be challenging to say the least.
