Transport yourself to Amherst, Wisconsin, on a snowy October night.
You hear singing and the sounds of instruments in the distance.
As you continue walking the sounds become louder.
When you are near the opera house, you realize this is where the sounds are coming from.
The lights are on.
You cautiously approach the stairs.
Upon opening the doors, you see where the music is coming from.
You pause a moment, looking through the next set of doors.
When you enter, the smell of popcorn waves through the air.
You look to your right and see a popcorn machine.
You take a bag of popcorn and find a seat.
The rest of the night is spent listening to ballads, love songs and more.
At times your mind wanders.
You imagine who else graced the seat you now occupy.
You think of the countless other shows that were on that stage.
There were Vaudeville acts, plays, orators, musicians and others.
At times silent movies were shown.
You hear the piano music that was played during the movies.
The sound of applause brings you back to the present time.
You reach in your popcorn bag.
Life is good.
A night at the Amherst Opera House.
