figure I make thread about this see if I get any insight and if anyone else as experienced it
for the last few months in my residence there as been a very low frequency rumble sound It seem like it comes from up high
The sound happen erratically, at any time, & last only for a micro second Sometimes just bit longer
so concerning I have started noting down the times and dates
It really a very low frequency and pretty irritating to the ears just vibrates through the brain
Yesterday I was at an indoor meeting at location about 8 miles from my residence,
I heard the rumble twice There were 2 other people in the room Asked if they had heard it? Neither did.
Been meaning to ask the neighbors if they hear it? Butte I keep forgetting…ha
I may be getting paranoid butte other have heard it also
anyone else...?

The answer is sound. The waste biogas is being processed through two large burner towers. If the flame becomes unstable, a feedback loop can develop, creating a steady, repeating concussive rumble. If left unchecked, the tower can become a large Helmholtz Resonator. Basically, the plant is then an industrial sized pipe organ which can only play one note. A note so low that you can't hear it, but you can feel it in your chest and see windows and items shake in your house. These houses are less than 400 yards from the plant, so they are well within a low-frequency acoustic reception zone. This phenomenon is rare but has been well documented for over 100 years. For more info on this lookup: IDENTIFYING SOURCES OF THERMOACOUSTIC VIBRATIONS (RUMBLE) IN INDUSTRIAL FURNACES AND BOILERS.
Sounds plausible to me.

From time to time, all summer long, we have had a low rumbling sound here around Columbia SC. When I heard them I attributed them to sounds from the nearby I-26 or aircraft. Later on while watching the news it was reported as an earthquake. The now closed Haile gold mine near Ridgeway SC is very close to where many have been coming from.

Late Friday night, ~1:20 am . . . BOOM!
Thought the furnace blew up or something. Searched the house, nothing. Didn’t even wake the wife. Went out and walked the neighborhood, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. WTF? Searched the net for any other reports. Nada. This thing was much louder than the mild earthquake we had back in January.
Filed a report w/USGS yesterday.

Thanks Chad
I didn’t read the comment section That is very unusual and informative post
whatever happening in that location on the news report not sure if it as parallel to what going on at my neighbhood.
There is well over a 30 mile difference, Uptown vs. way downtown ha ha
I just visited my Appalachian pal that lives about ¼ mile away. Purposely went there to see if he's heard anything Asked him if he as heard the noise? No.
Then about 20 minutes later it happened Did you hear that? He replied: No
Am I going off my rocker?

O boy
Not sure the world wide phenomena of the HUM Is the same thing mohs is experiencing
Butte now we have to contemplate weather if the damn HUM Is in even in the box
Wave/particle duality Great!
were deep doo doo stuff
what my noise reminds me of is rap crap subwoofer low rumble we all experience in traffic
now I like to fashion myself as audiophile and I have sub-woofer powered by 125 watts of pure wave
my system as been know to vibrate roof nails loose
Yet the sub woofer really doesn’t play role in rock & roll I got it for surround sound movies,,,,

mohs . RickB I notice a lot of distant rumbling these days that the wife doesn’t. All they ever talk about is hearing loss as you age, but maybe this heightened awareness of low-frequency noise is a newfound feature of old age in men. : )

@mohs Well, based on the title of your thread I thought maybe you were hungry - having a rumbly in your tumbly. But, seriously, I have had tinnitus for a couple decades now and so I've read a lot about it. Some people apparently have a low level tinnitus that can cause a low rumbling sound. Causes them lots of confusion cause it sounds external. So, I don't know if that could be your situation, but maybe you can look it up and see if the description like what you are experiencing.

I have my hearing checked every year. As you age, you lose high frequency hearing. I've never had problems with the bass.

@mohs rockjunquie LOL I probably developed my ringing from blasting my headphones/ear buds all my life. But now, with the tinnitus, I HAVE to blast it to hear the music well. Ironic, isn't it?

think 'the dude' is correct Its all in my head working off that theory mediate some concerns of course it bring up others do some internet searches on old people and lowrumblings which should provide many hits might even get referral to ear & gnose specialist get it recorded anyway only happens in a room not outside and doesn't bother -- my otherwise, already, sketchy sleep patterns... mostly

I've had tinnitus for too many years, sounds to me like a million crickets in a high mountain meadow. One odd thing about it; one generally very peaceful and quiet place we hunt rocks I hear what sounds like a very big powerful tractor pulling hard, and at a fair distance away, like it's pulling a seven bottom plow set. At this location it's not possible, has to be in my head. What I've learned about tinnitus there is an endless array of sounds heard by different people, depends on the individual.

That interesting Larry
Tractor sounss in the open hmmmm
That ear ringing luckily as never bothered me to much
this lowrumble is a bit disconcerting
so far it tamed
butte can imagine it not getting better
I recall getting my Mom some earbuds to watch TV
mistake!
after she tried them-- she experienced audible hallucination
well she was 90 bless her soul
hope the Lady & You are doing as well as can be
