Picked up the custom stainless steel plate to fix one of the Vib Lap pans. Certainly glad I went with 1/8 thickness as it weighted a little over 13 pounds. We used Marine grade epoxy to attach and to provide some fill for the dished area. Then used J-B weld to seal around the plate and the edge of the pan. On hind sight this was probably overkill as the stainless bottom is now permanent! Not a big issue as I have a total of 5 pans and a friend who can provide me old dished pans.
My suspicions(hopes) are that it will take several months to detect any real wear on the re-bottomed pan. I did set aside the least dished of the 5 pans and will use it for grinding smaller rocks say 5 inches and less as they will be less affected by a slightly dished pan. That also has the side benefit of extending the life of the re-bottomed pan as it will be reserved for larger pieces. Time will tell.
I re-carpeted the Polish pan. I had 3 pans with old wore out polish pads and needed acetone to remove the old pads. The first of the rocks ground on the new stainless pan came out of polish at 27 hours and it was polished to my satisfaction. Have a 8 to 9 inch piece of petrified wood that will probably be done at 48 hours.
I just need to get about 3 or 4 more larger pieces done before the Rock Show mid-March.
Seems I have come to the conclusion that a person needs to be 3 entities. One would be the re-searcher/reader, husband/dad, cook and bottle washer. Another would be the shop/yard guy keeping everything running, cutting, polishing, etc, etc. The third would be the traveler/collector/visitor of old friends and family. These 3 entities would all share the same consciousness. Sounds like a good science fiction story.

Henry Hank, you forgot the 4th person, the one who wanders into the workshop randomly and exclaims "Where did all these rocks come from?!??! What are you going to do with them all??? Ooooh....that one's nice....."
