Greetings it was originally sold as Dumortierite, but it's not that as it is atleast Moh's 7 - 8.5 for hardness, but this is just between 3-4 on the Moh's scale as an Aluminum tent peg scratches the rock, it is fully opaque also it does not polish on Aluminum Oxide polish, but diamond is ok. Id this blue material? There are 13 photos of rough and 18 photos of tumbled in my vibe for 48 hours and they lost almost 50% of their mass in the vibe, the battery shown is AA type for size. click the image to get the larger image also this is the last image that has this material. Usually I am ok at IDing material but this has me stumped!

it looks sort of like sodalite, but sodalite is a bit harder than what you have.

Greetings I have been calling this stuff "Blue marble" it has a hardness between 3 - 4 and has no visable crystals whatsoever.
electrocutus: Sodalite 5 - 6 for hardness and semi-transparent crystals.
jasoninsd: Dumortierite is 7 - 8.5 for hardness and has semi-transparent crystals, thanks for "Dumortierite" I could not remember it's sold name.
If I was to guess I would say it's a rock from the Igneous rock group.

Yeah. dumortierite is actually dumortierite in quartz and runs pretty hard, though I have tumbled some that is softer than mohs 7. Trade name used to be "Desert Lapis" and the color always reminds me of a fresh pair of bluejeans. Stuff I have is actually hard to get a good shine on in the tumbler.

They do look similar to the one piece of "Desert Lapis" that I've tumbled. I don't have a pic at the ready....

Greetings the tumbled photos are not polished they are just wet, the photo was taken just after they came out F220 by the time I got through the polish cycle only the center finger remained and it was a slither.
Only diamond and Tin Oxide polished this material.
"Desert Lapis" I had a look at several photos and it does not look the same other than color, I have seen igneous river rocks with simiar patterns and no visable crystals.
I done additional testing: Streak = White / Light grey, hardness 3.5 on Moh's scale, it is lighter than a simiar sized piece of quartz.

No idea, but it's beautiful and it's easy to work on, I notice that "ASI Andrew" has made a album with just that blue rock. www.flickr.com/photos/asiindustries/albums/72177720303988502As some people thought that it was just the one photo and it looked polished, nope it's definitely just wet and there are more photos than just one image.

Greetings just an update, Apatite, Desert Lapis, Denim Lapis and Holley Blue have been listed also, however these rocks all have a common link to each other being they have Crystals and are a lot harder than my material, I still think that my rock is a rock from the Igneous rock group and not a mineral!

hey, you may want to consider blue aventurine. i've stumbled onto a few deposits of it in on the east coast in an igneous metamorphic region near an old aquifer (if that helps)!

With the hardness you have described, how about angelite? Apatite is also possible, I think, I know its Mohs is supposed to be 5 but I have some that is softer than that. Color is lighter, but it is variable, and I was looking at it dry. Oh, I see you have ruled out apatite due to crystals; I didn't see any in mine but I wasn't looking carefully or with magnification. That still leaves angelite.
