So here's the story: I found quite a number of Rebel 17 tumblers for sale on Facebook Marketplace for between $140 and $175 when they're around $250 on Rockshed or more on Amazon. I wondered if they were a scam, but they reassure you with their "Purchase Protection". After running into what I can only imagine is a scam (shipped to no specific address, shipping weight of 10lbs instead of 24, signed for by not me), I found out that if the seller gives you a tracking number (even if it wasn't with the right item or address) and it was listed as delivered by the package company, you are no longer eligible for the purchase protection if you didn't receive it (but apparently you are if it's the wrong item). I filed a report with UPS as well and they just concluded after a week that it looks fine even though it was sent to Dawn Suwanski (not my name) at no actual address and was signed for by someone name ENGLAND at the "front desk", and I live in a single family home. Seems like no one's actually checking and leaving open a pretty clear exploit for scammers. So now the only protection I have is my credit card company and I hope that doesn't fall through as well. TLDR: I'm currently very miffed less so that I got scammed, but more that I wasn't able to do much about it with Facebook/Meta or with UPS or to help prevent others from trying to buy them. Don't buy tumblers from Facebook Marketplace, you aren't protected by them or the shipping company and it's not worth the price they're listing.

I will say I do have one Rebel 17 already that I bought from Kingsley North and I love it, it seems to be really well made, similar to the design of the Thumbler's model B rotary tumbler, but a more robust base with better bearings, nicer thumb screws, and a nice powdercoat.

Well, I hope “Trenton” has received an appropriate review rating from you potentially knocking him even lower than his current 3 stars. Sorry you’re dealing with this. Unfortunately we share this world with some real jerks.

Unfortunately we share this world with some real jerks. I did what I could, but thankfully others had already done so. When I ordered the week before I took this, the seller was at 5 stars. I reported him and left a review (the review unfortunately didn't actually appear as far as I could tell and now I don't have access to the profile because I think the scammer blocked me). People are always doing stuff like this, the issue is more the companies that don't handle these people properly and allow this to continue when there are some pretty obvious exploits. They don't have any way for me to contact them that I've been able to find and that makes me not trust Facebook Marketplace in general.

I've seen some people mentioned that if you buy a seemingly cheaper brand-new "Lortone" 3A or 33B from facebook, what they actually ship to you is a lower-end cheaper tumbler.
In your case, you didn't even receive anything, which is even worse.
I am still waiting for the Rebel 17 to be in stock from Kingsley North or Rockshed.

That would be frustrating enough, but at least you'd have some recourse. I just bought a second rebel 17 from rockshed and decided to get the high speed version since I have so much chalcedony that'll take a long time to tumble with coarse grit and that should help speed it up. I figured worse case scenario, I can always buy a tumblers B motor to replace it if it's not working out in the long run.

I like the idea to be gentle to the motor, but also want to have my agates grind faster. Look forward to your reports!

I'll try to remember to share what I've noticed over time. I'm hoping I don't just end up with a ton of spalls just from the tumbling

When I have time I'll up the site that has both motors and replacement parts for the 17. The last time I looked, their motors were cheaper and better.

That would be perfect, I didn't see any of the rebel 17 motors on rockshed, but they had the thumblers. Most of what I'm doing in the bigger tumblers is stage 1, I plan to get a vibe tumbler when they're back in stock to get the rest of the stages faster with less grit

PayPal finally resolved things and issued me a refund, and I'm not sure if it was because it was a scam or because I stated that the seller offered a refund that was pending. I was sweating it though and I'm still upset about how so many supposed protection plans failed to catch something that was obviously a scam. Meta/Facebook Marketplace did nothing for me despite purchase protection, UPS also did nothing, both said that was because there was a delivery confirmation, which is total BS. Be careful out there!

Is this the guy that was going around offering them real cheap on facebook 'for a limited time'? If so, I saw a lot of people on his posts commenting that they had them on the way... I was tempted to try one at the price he was offering, and even talked with him a little in chat, but now glad I didn't. Glad to hear you got your money back.
