Posting again, as I have more info. Maybe someone who has joined RTH over the past 2-3 years can help with ID. Or someone who has been here longer finds this info helpful. In the past I was told it was an offshoot from smelting. There were no known smelting operations anywhere near where it was found. Someone recently said it might be Hemimorphite, which is a form of Zinc. Photos of that look very similar. The area found is loaded with various mineral deposits. Location found: Very rural, Northern Wisconsin (Rusk/Barron County) on County Forest land, mid 1990’s. Behind the lower falls in first photo. It was about a 1 mile walk through the woods to get to this location. We had to park on the shoulder of a County road at the time. Hardness of about 4-5. The crystals are very delicate and fall off easily. Size/weight: About 4.5” long. Moderately light for size. Should I try putting a UV light on it to check the color? I have been handling this is little as possible, because I do not want to damage it further. Thank you.

Interesting, looks like a possibility from the photos but could also be Gypsum its hard to say without some close ups of the crystals, also Hemimorphite has not been reported in Rusk or Barron Co before (though Rusk county has an amazing array of documented minerals mostly from the now gone Flambeau mine).
If you can get a crystal off, see if it can scratch glass and check for a reaction to acid. never hurts as well to check for a UV response, Short wave and long wave if have both.
