I received this slab from a my friend’s moms old collection. I have been researching different blue minerals and haven’t really come across any specific one that seems to fit it. It’s a pretty solid piece, and turned the water blueish while cabbing. Does anyone know what it is? Tracie

It is also pretty shimmery, a unique larger sparkle to it.

Sure looks like Azurite to me. Yep...I agree with Robin. It looks like Azurite with a hint of Chrysocolla on the right edge.

Could be azurite, but it also looks like shattuckite. Shattuckite is generally a deeper blue, while azurite is generally a brighter blue.

When looking for answers, I was thinking azurite too. But then I thought that it might be apatite or Shattuckite. Looks like both azurite and shattuckite both occur with chrysocolla.. Most of the chrysocolla images I have seen don’t have that much blue so it’s hard to compare the blues. @mohs thank you, I agree, a lucky find!

Not the best lighting, but here is a picture of one of the cabs made out of blue slab.. Gorgeous blues in that one! I still think it's Azurite from the looks. Was it really soft?

Have to agree with you, Tela. Definitely looks more like shattuckite now.

It was definitely softer than let’s say agate. I think both azurite and shattuckite are both 3.5-4 hardness. Surprisingly it didn’t seem that soft, but I am probably wrong because it is definitely one of them. I have worked with a lot of Petoskey stones which they say can range from 3-5 hardness, and it seemed harder, but I am sure most Petoskey stones are a 3. Thanks everyone for your input!

Not the best lighting, but here is a picture of one of the cabs made out of blue slab.. Really nice cab, whatever it turns out to be. My guess is Shattuckite but it would take a lab test to verify.
