Any info that would help us choose between the 2 Thank you 😊 Ali Quartzsite 'cuz then we could meet you and Nate in person at Tony's BBQ! We are planning on being there next year ourselves. We didn't make it this year. As soon as the Best Western allows reservations for next January, I'm booking our room. Quartzsite if you want to buy rough at more reasonable prices. Lots of the folks who sell in Tuscon go to Quartzsite to buy rough and then resell it at the shows in Tuscon. I've never been to the Tuscon shows, but I've heard it's so huge, it's sensory overload. I'd probably go bankrupt if I went to Tuscon. Also keep in mind that if you'll be staying at a hotel, those rooms are booked well in advance (like a year or more). They're also more expensive.

We are planning on being there next year ourselves. ^^ THIS ^^ I know we had no way of knowing this Mariposa house and frantic renovation was going to fall in our laps but I still felt a lot of disappointment that we didn't find a way to come. Next year. And I'm excited about meeting all of y'all so pick Qz please.

Quartzsite.
My friend went to Tuscon this week and they stole his new quad and trailer out of the hotel parking lot in the middle of the day. He got to checking and there were 2000 vehicles stolen in Tuscon in the past year. Thats like 6 a day!! Puts a bad taste in your mouth with that happening.

Definitely Q-site if you want rocks or equipment, Tucson if you want imported trinkets to re-sell. We might run down to the Miners co-op and the Kino show in Tucson this weekend but we're 2 hours away. I doubt it will be more than entertainment and a chance to get away, but we always go to Q-site to buy stuff.

Thank you all very much! We both were kind of leaning that way just from all the reports on Quartzite over the years.
Robin: I agree Tuscon would be an overload. Just watching the TikToks from it boggles my brain.
And it is going to be exciting for us to finally meet y'all
If I recall there is a thread somewhere about places to stay, so we will have to dig through that.
Now, the question is. Do we drive or fly😂

Quartzite for rough, Tuscon for finished products and cut stones. If you like faceted goods Tuscon is the place to go.

Hey there, MsAli. You two could probably fly and rent a car reasonably enough compared to driving. That would give you maybe 2-3 days more time doing something other than staring at a highway, too.

Wow - that's more road time than I thought it would be. I know that would wear on me, for sure.

Oh this morning I was talking with my friend who got his quad and trailer stolen in Tuscon, they have had 2000 vehicles stolen so far this year! Not over the past year but so far this year, that is plumb crazy!! That is like about 50 vehicles stolen a day there?

I want to say I heard there has been 700 so far this year in the cities. People leave ther vehicles running to warm up and they steal them. So they are advising not to leave vehicles running, which when it's -30 out, there isn't much of a choice

When we took the realtor tour of Tucson about 5 years ago the trucks with rebar cages around the catalytic converters spoke volumes about the livability.

This weekend might actually be a good Tucson weekend, criminals will probably be prowling Phoenix for the super bowl.

I drove to Quartzite five years ago from NY state, three and a half days, 10-12 hours a day. I like to drive though and love seeing the countryside go by. It's a big fine land and I like to see as much of it as I can, I like stopping in places I have never been, eating in places I have never been and talking to folks from all over.

Flat Rate boxes come in handy for the rocks you don't want to put in the luggage for TSA bribes, and the USPS in Q is surely very accustomed to boxes of rocks. All RTHlings who fly into PHX are welcome to take the scenic route US60 and say hi on the way, I may even have the new Burro Creek and other collection sites around Wickenburg scouted out by next year.

My runner has no issues starting in the cold, but she needs some time to get the fluids warmed up
