Any idea where it came from? Lots of purples out there that occur in the bubbles in ash, both agate and opal. I assume a mineral common to volcanic activity that produces white ash. I have some Turkish stuff that is definitely opal. Sure it's not agate?

RockoonzI’m not sure Lee where it came from. It could be agate. But it looks more opal-ish but agate is a possibility. I can take some better pictures of the purple today.

That looks more like a chalcedony, not opal.

I tend to agree with James on the Chalcedony guess, a hardness test would show. That's a nice deep purple, will make super nice cabs.

It's Salvia purple Chalcedony. Gem shop sells this Thanks to you and ashley, I now have a new favorite rock and rock shop! Wow, The Gem Shop rough rock inventory, as well as their prices, are amazing. Went there for a on-line glance and dropped a hundred within 30 minutes (including a couple pounds of that gorgeous purple chalcedony). I can’t wait for everything to arrive. Again, many thanks!

It's easy to find plenty to buy from them if you ever get a chance, go in person. Just plan on being there several hours to get through everything
