My old man has been cultivating a whole face, snow white beard for some time. He has never had such a beard. It used to be red, his hair used to be almost black and his huge eyes baby blue. So, he looks radically different now. His hair is grey and almost as long as when we first met. He brushes it straight back. I don't care for long hair on guys, but this new look is really working for him.
Now, I'm really not one to tell him how to dress or whatever, but I did kinda insist he go somewhere and learn how to properly care for that face mane. So, for the first time in his life, he is going to a bona fide Gucci ass barber (or, should that be stylist?) to learn the tricks of the trade. I really hope he figures out how to sculpt it to frame his face right.
Guys- if you have or had a beard, how did you learn the correct way to trim it and keep it? There is a website called The Art of Manliness which is really good. DH usually goes there for all guy stuff and has sent the grandsons there. What he needs now, though, is beyond the scope of the site.
I still can't get over him going to see someone he had to make an appt for!! LOL!! I shouldn't laugh. He's probably just getting gussied up for his new girlfriend. JK He knows that I know where he sleeps. LOL!

So...after three years of growing out my beard...only cutting it off once in those three years...I am now having to keep it "trimmed". In fact, it's been just under a month since I cut it WAY back to about 1/2"...and tomorrow I need to trim it off again! ARGHHHH!!! I really don't know what styles are "in"...but I cut my own hair and beard...mainly because I'm too cheap to pay someone else to hack it back! LOL Is DH gonna let you post pics once he gets "gussied up"??

My old man also has facial hair. He had a full beard when we met back in 1979. Bet there's more than a few RTHlings that weren't even born then, you young pups! When he was younger he was a bit of a ginger I'd say he was a strawberry blonde. When we met, his beard was fiery red!
He used to shave regularly back then, although he had to buy Gilette Blue blades so he didn't rash out so bad. He really doesn't believe in maintaining anything, lol. So I became the family stylist and barber. At least he knew, I always gave it my all, and he never complained. (I'm sure a few of them could have been better.) We always joked that a bad haircut (or beard trim!) was a temporary thing. It would always grow back! It has been pure white for at least the last 15 or 20 years.
I believe he has shaved it and his mustache off together exactly one time in all the years we've been together. So different did he look that his own boss was asking the other employees, "Who's the new man?" Too funny!

Vince always had a beard. He was meticulous about keeping it trimmed and neat. Used his electric beard trimmer thingy. rockjunquie, if your DH needs a trimmer, I'd be happy to donate Vince's to the cause. I have no use for it. Pretty sure it won't work real well on legs.

I cut husband’s hair for about 40 years, figuring I could do as well as the barber. Well, frequently I wished I knew what I was doing! He really didn’t care just as long as his hair didn’t tickle his ears.
Re moustache , it was an experiment. Didn’t last long. It was like kissing the business end of a broom! Beard never. I’m glad.

Well to be honest and once watched a video on trimming beards and it really is like trimming a hedge basically if you want a long face look you make your chin hair longer than your jaw hair and you make the hair at the top of your cheek shorter than the hairs along bottom of your cheeks I found that my favorite barbers seem to be Dominican Republican men extremely proficient with the clipper and incredibly attuned to detail.

How funny Tela. Tom has a short beard and moustache, never seen him without one except in a photo. I believe he trims it with a scissor every day. It's always neat and tidy. I like it.

He has always had facial hair except for one job interview a million years ago. He always kept his facial hair fairly short til the end of winter these last few years. But it has seemingly turned white over night. It can get more white in the mustache still, but pretty impressive as is. Naturally, the kids are calling him Santa.
I have never cut his hair or beard. I have zero talent for it or desire to do it.

Yeah, I think he would. His appt is Mon.

I think DH is using a hair cutter, but I'm not sure. My late BIL always kept a very neat beard. He was meticulous about his looks - period. He was a very good looking guy and knew it. LOL! I'll PM about the trimmer.

When DH's beard used to get long, I hated kissing him because his whiskers were so stiff, but these white ones are super soft. Weird. I can handle the white beard.

Yeah, he saw a couple videos and got a few tips, but he's still lost. Thanks for the tip about barbers.

I know my man, he would never use scissors to trim. That would take long. (for him)
I prefer the facial hair, too. I like testosterone in my men. LOL!

Maybe the barber stylist can make his long unruly hair better too.
Long hair, on the right guy, I always thought, looks good, if kept nicely .
Patty... Imagining Tela tipping the barber before he goes.

Dh has thin hair. He always has since birth. Now, it's beginning to thin at the crown, too. But when he combs it straight back it looks really good. I don't know what the stylist could do for him there. DH HAD planned on getting a haircut, too, but since I mentioned that I liked the new look, he might just keep it.
Yeah, I'd love to be there, but I know better. I don't hover when he's working on the car, either. LOL!!!

My fiancé had an electric beard trimming kit. He showed me how to trim his beard. It was pretty messy and he had to wear a cape, but it worked well.

Dh has never asked for my help- though I have pointed it out when something was really off. I used to cut my kids hair when they were little, but that's different.
