I got a text from Rob ( Jugglerguy) aka Michigan Rocks that he had uploaded his video tour of The Rock Shed. It was awesome to be there during the filming of this video. Shawn (owner of The Rock Shed) was SO gracious while we were there...I say "we" because I got to tag along to all the "off-limits" places! LOL - I told Rob I'd post a thread because so many forum members would probably love to see where their rough and grit (AND TOOTSIE ROLLS) are coming from!! Heck, I even make a cameo appearance in this one! LOL

I LOVED the video!!
His little shop and tiny internet biz area remind me that he is indeed a small family business.
It was nice to see that Fairburn cut open, too. So were you impressed with it, jasoninsd? How much was it in the shop?

(Getting pretty dang tired of politics!) I stumbled across Rob's video of the Rock Shed! I caught it just starting, but had to stop and get dinner going. Watched maybe ten minutes of it earlier. Now that dinner is finished and the dishes are done, I'll be watching it from the beginning shortly. Looks like you had a blast! Will let you know what I think of your big YouTube debut!

Shawn was outside in the parking lot across the street. I pulled up next to him and Shawn started beaming as soon as he saw Rob in the truck! It's definitely a family business! Shawn's dad, who started The Rock Shed, was there...but he didn't want to be in the video! LOL I definitely WAS impressed with the inside of the Fairburn. I do think Shawn was hoping the fortifications would have gone clear to the center...even though he didn't say anything about it. Funny you ask about the price. The title of the video says it was a $1500 Fairburn (and Shawn did confirm with Rob that was the price before Rob posted the video)...but I swear the tag he had on it before he cut it was higher than that! Although...I'm probably remembering wrong! LOL

Every time I go in there, I say something about NOT getting Tootsie Rolls when I buy in person. They laugh. The don't reach for any...but they do laugh about it! LOL (* I know if I was actually serious about it, they'd give me some though! LOL)

Awesome video, I order everything from Shawn, he treats you fair... I can't stress enough what "good" people Shawn, his wife, and his daughter are. They remember me from when I've been in (a few times! LOL), even though they have a ton of tourist traffic. They're always willing to chat about anything rock related...and pretty much whatever anyone else wants to chat about!

I think at this point everyone has been to The Rock Shed website at least once but I had no idea they had a lot of material outside as well and I like the ore cart displays.

One of the things I REALLY like about what Shawn does, is that he (and the rest of the family) won't "cherry pick" tumbling rough for people...nor will he sell the "leftover" material after it's been picked through outside. All the material get's bagged up (randomly) before any material goes to the outside bins. That way everyone gets a "fair" selection of rough when purchasing online. I of course LOVE being able to pick through what does get out to the bins! LOL

Thanks for arranging the tour of the Rock Shed with Rob and Shawn. I really enjoyed the cutting of the agate and the ore carts outside.

That was one of the highlights of my whole trip. What a nice family. I enjoyed talking to every one of them. I really wish Shawn's dad would have agreed to be on camera, but he just wasn't comfortable with it. Maybe next time.

Thanks for arranging the tour of the Rock Shed with Rob and Shawn. I really enjoyed the cutting of the agate and the ore carts outside. Oh no...I didn't arrange it. Rob already had that arranged. I was simply the chauffeur and "side-kick" for the day! LOL That was one of the highlights of my whole trip. What a nice family. I enjoyed talking to every one of them. I really wish Shawn's dad would have agreed to be on camera, but he just wasn't comfortable with it. Maybe next time. Yeah...he was pretty adamant about being on camera! LOL You can definitely tell where the love of rocks came from in that family. He was just as excited as the rest of us about that Fairburn getting cut!

Same when I go to The Rock Shed...I can't take my debit card with me...and I only have "so much" cash on me. If I don't do that, I lose control! LOL

What a great video, Rob Jugglerguy! Thanks for posting it, Jason (you are such a ham). I really enjoyed watching that Fairburn get cut and seeing where all the magic happens in the basement.

I agree, really enjoyed the video. It's probably a good thing I don't live closer.

What a great video, Rob Jugglerguy ! Thanks for posting it, Jason (you are such a ham). I really enjoyed watching that Fairburn get cut and seeing where all the magic happens in the basement. I try to tell people I'm not much different in "real life" than I am on here! LOL You should have REALLY seen that basement! There was equipment everywhere down there! I'm pretty sure there was a 36" saw over in the corner. And where there wasn't a piece of equipment, there were rocks all over the place! There were cut agates galore...and a big polished chunk of Malachite just waiting for "something" to happen! LOL I agree, really enjoyed the video. It's probably a good thing I don't live closer. The REALLY bad thing is, my in-laws live about 15 minutes from TRS. So...it takes everything I have to stick around during family get-togethers and not take a "break" down the road for a bit! LOL In fact, after we went to The Rock Shed, Rob and I had to stop at my in-laws farm to show my father-in-law the Fairburns we had found the day before! LOL OMG! That picture has two famous guys and one infamous clown! LOL Thanks for posting this! I don't do FB...but I knew they said they were going to post the pic!
