Here’s a fresh batch out of the vibe! Hmmm… I think I need to run them through a cleaning stage. I’m seeing things in the pictures I can’t see with my eyes. Random rock from a Washington state beach I found this inside a chunk of ancient coral here in central Texas. It’s one of my favorite finds. I have no idea what this is and wish I did. We find quite a few of them. They range from red to black in color. It’s a very hard rock. Some of these will go back to stage 1. Cracks happens lol. I stopped tumbling this guy once all the orbes like things appeared. I love how it looks, regardless of the flaws. Lastly, prairie agate slabs from Jason. This is the only one I could cut before having to stop using the saw. The vibrations set off my neuropathy and make it very painful. I’ll try again later this year.

Those are amazing velodromed - beautiful polish. I don't blame you for stopping with the orbed rock - it's gorgeous! My eyes are AWFUL! I often use both a magnifier and optivisor when looking at them and I still miss things.

I often use both a magnifier and optivisor when looking at them and I still miss things. Thank you so much!! For me it’s not just my awful, -6.75 vision lol. My main problem is I tend to overwhelm myself. I have 5 barrels going at all times, a total of 30lbs worth of rock nearly. After months I start getting impatient and feel like it’s too much, so I’ll pull any rock that looks close and throw them in the vibe for stages 2-5, just to feel like I’m finishing something. Then I’ll go through them and start over the rocks that weren’t quite ready. Like with this batch, I’ll be starting 4 or 5 of them over. A couple back to stage 1 and a couple back to stage 2. I figure (hope) this will all settle down as I continue with the hobby, get my system more organized and become more patient. I think I need one of those optivisor things. I saw one the other day and it looks very handy.

Neither of which this hobby supports ha! The biggest reason why I had so many unsatisfactory results. I watched Rob's video one day on tumbling and became determined to have rocks that look like his Still no where near that because even though Im better and do wait longer before moving along, I still want to move things along quickly and get that vibe running so I overlook certain 'imperfections' and polish trappers!! The optivisor has helped me immensely!! I recommend for sure. I think they are fairly cheap -maybe $20? Mine isn't lighted, but still works quite well.

"The vibrations set off my neuropathy and make it very painful."
Hmm when I see this I am wondering, do you mean the vibration of the saw that transmitted to your body caused some sort of migration on you? Asking because I happily messed with my cabbing machine yesterday and since it was an old model, the vibration was pretty strong, and I have a headache today.

Rob’s videos really helped me get going with this hobby. I was far more impatient before I got into my last hobby. Building high end RC cars was extremely difficult, took everything I had and 2 years to learn all the new skills required. But still…this hobby really fine tunes it. And it’s helped in a way I never expected, with my 10 year old step daughter. I’m 53, and raised a family long ago (my son is 29 and I have an 8 year old granddaughter). Much has changed so when I remarried (my wife’s my age actually, had her kid late in life) and became a step dad to a really hyper 7 year old kid who was raised by my wife’s narcissistic alcoholic ex, it was hard. Then we suddenly got full custody 2 years ago I had to adjust quickly. Sometimes I’d look at the kid like a rough rock, seeing the potential and knowing it would take much time to uncover. Now she’s in ‘stage four, pre polish’ and doing amazing, really starting to shine bright. She’s taught me patience and understanding in a beautiful way. Today was her first day of 5th grade. I’m so freakin’ proud of this kid, how she’s grown, developed and changed. I think we’ve broken the cycle her mom was stuck in (abusive father leading to abusive former husband leading the kid to follow the same cycle). She’s my best little buddy and I love helping raise her. Yup I went off track big time, but that’s just me

Asking because I happily messed with my cabbing machine yesterday and since it was an old model, the vibration was pretty strong, and I have a headache today. Sorry you have a headache today, I know they can be painful and difficult. I have C2-7 fused in my neck, a lot of nerve damage at T1-4 and degenerative disk disease down my spine along with other damage I’ve done to myself over 53 years. So the vibrations rattled me badly and my arms went burning numb and my neck hurt bad. The sintered blades are the worst some how. The notched blades do not vibrate as bad, but also leave a lot more saw marks in the rock (I’m still learning) Later this year I’ll try again, after I’m (hopefully) fully healed from the 3 surgeries I had in the last 8 months. I’ll try to limit myself to 30 minutes at a time instead of the couple hours I was doing before. I also bought better saw blades that will hopefully help.

How adorable is your step daughter! Happy first day of 5th grade!! My daughter starts in a few days and will be her senior year. So hard to believe. My husband used to be into RC cars - I saw your prior post with all of the cars you shared. So cool! He was only in it for a year or so, but he'd go to a local indoor track and race, then spend all the time fine-tuning, changing out whatevers and just tinkering. I'm not sure if he even still has them - I'll have to ask. Kids truly can be a blessing and I'm grateful she has you, your wife and a stable home life!

Please ask him as I’m curious. RC replaced my life long hobby, cycling. I rode and raced amateur mountain bikes in the Santa Cruz mountains and track bikes at the Heller park velodrome for near 20 years in San Jose, CA, until I broke myself really bad. RC gets me back out in the dirt, gives me something to tinker with…and I can’t really hurt myself all that much lol. Congrats to your daughter! What a big year senior year is. You must be so proud!

I'm so grateful for sr. year lol...It's been a long time coming and not an easy road.

Awesome batch Velo! Lots of real beauts in there! I always have 2-6 stones from every polish stage that need to go back to coarse. Most are due to lack of patience on my part, some just slip through!
