This is my entry for colors that are found in Austin, Texas at this time of year. Even though my area does not have swaths of color we do have individual trees that are beautiful as exhibited in the persimmon leaves from my yard. This cab is made from Yellowstone River material that exhibits great color. The cab is made from a polished flat and is part of a 5 gallon bucket purchased from a friend in Bastrop, Texas. The friends health was getting bad and he was selling everything except for a few items and discovered after the sale that he had this high quality material and a piece of West Texas Hart ranch plume under his large saw. He called and asked me if I wanted it for a good price. I said "yes" and drove from Austin to Bastrop to pick up this unseen purchase. This is one of many colorful pieces.

Here's mine, a polkadot agate from just north of Madras OR. Self collected from the hillside below the artifact area from the original native arrowhead digging area, where they tossed their rejects after pulling them from the coals of the fire used to make the agate knap better. So enhanced by ancient fire.

For a number of years we made 2 annual pilgrimages to the polkadot mine, Memorial day and Labor day weekend, right before the NW Rockhound retreat. One year Dale was giving his grandkids bucket rides in the escavator bucket. Another time, when I mapped it on Google it said we could go through Ashwood and get to antelope instead of going back down to the highway. a couple hours later driving down what looked like a cattle path, started getting concerned. The google directions path on the phone was long gone, and I was pretty sure we would be more lost if we turned around. Short story is we got to hwy 218, but not where we expected to reach it.

Pebblesky, my wife, Ruth, sees a buffalo and I see a very interesting display of overlapping colors. This cab is the final shape from what I originally made due to two separate breaks in the vibe.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it -- a buffalo! Nice one!

This will be my last minute entry. This is not my glam shot as I will still need to do those later this evening. But this is a piece of Maury Moss believe it or not. Has moss, agate banding and jasper inclusion. The water lines transition to a white jasper that have an orbing that look similar to what you see in misty mountain. Pretty uniqe piece of maury if you ask me.

Ok, here's my last minute entry. I'm not sure what this is but it's really pretty material and I think has great fall colors. I'd definitely like to play around with more of it. I got it from drocknut Diane, do you know what this one is? The 2nd and 3rd pics are for the contest. I thought I'd also show a back-lit one because it's just so cool and also the back because there's area's of red that were unfortunately lost on the front.
For my summertime memory..... well, I work so much during the summers and have for the last twenty years or so, that I don't really get much time to create 'summer memories'. I am pretty easily pleased though and really enjoy just having the presence of mildly warm weather and being able to sit out on our deck in the morning with a cup of coffee and watching the trees rustling in the breeze along with all the happy little birds flitting about in the warm sunshine. The occasional scolding from the little buzz-buzz-bomber hummingbirds gives me some company and additional entertainment. :-)

This will be my entry. 

Maury Mountain Moss Agate

The white in this thing made for a pain in the ass to get a pic. As it reflects the light and takes out the detail in the jasper section that has obrs like misty mountain in it. But basically this is a piece of maury that had some very unique characteristics in it. Water lines, orbs, tubes (on the lower edge) banding, and moss lol




This was chosen for the Autumn theme for a few reasons. This was found around the season first and foremost. Secondly, the colors. Here, Autumn means, the dying off of the foliage resulting in browns and reds, with the inclusion of snow (Hence the white). We currently have snow in the higher elevations. Rockhounding coming to an end with the snow coming in. Essentially what my cab represents. Finding this piece is my memory because it was the last time I was out hounding.
