Hey Folks,

Recently we started doing live streams on facebook with great results.  We'd love to invite all of you to join us, as we have some great deals on fantastic rough!  We will post on this forums when we have new live streams planned, along with some teasers and what will be offered during it.  

We generally do our live stream sale every Saturday in the Cabs and Slabs: The Slab Depot  facebook group.  On some weekdays or weekends, we do it on my personal facebook Page: Brian Rhode.  Feel welcome to add me on there.  We also have a facebook group chat where we give reminders just before we go live.  Message me for an invite.

If this is not allowed, please let me know.  As far as I can tell on the rules, there should be no issues with this (I Hope).

We had a great live show!  This Saturday will be a Coprolite and Gem Dinosaur Bone day, and it will be in the Slab Depot group.  If you aren't a member, I highly recommend it as there are some really sweet deals with some amazing rough and slabs in there!

Oh bummer - I'd love to join, but quit using FB years ago. Although, my account is still active (I don't want to lose my pics) so maybe I can sneak on there and check it out...I've never cut open a thunderegg that was worth my time so would be interested in that among others...Thanks for sharing this!

I've been in "attendance" for most of these. They're a lot of fun and I've made a lot of great purchases. A LOT!!! I just received a couple of rocks from Brian yesterday.

For what it's worth, when you delete your account, Facebook will e-mail you a link to every photo on your account (as well as all your posts, etc.)

Would love to have you guys join! We may offer some of the same materials here at the same price, but random pull. During the live stream, you get to pick and choose the exact piece that would work for you!



Tomorrow (saturday) we will be live in the Slab Depot facebook group.  We will be starting around 4:30pm PST!  It'll be a 'crappy' dinosaur bone and coprolite rough day!  Both will be $12 a lbs.  The Coprolite is some really nice and solid cutters, the Dinosaur bone is all GAMBLE material.  Fractures, soft spots, or plain patterns may be present.  BUT, we have hit HIGH GRADE in this, and the last couple live streams we've done of this, our customers were very happy and posting some spectacular results!  For the price, it tends to cut really really good!  

If you cannot join the live stream, or just want to make it quick and easy, you can message me and we can do batches of RANDOM pull rough at the same prices listed above.

Thank you!  This weekend we will have some sweet Hampton Butte Petrified Wood rough, and if we are lucky and a shipment gets here on time, then some nice cutting sized high grade velvet obsidian rough!  

We may also feature bulk slabs by the lbs!

Was the kaleidoscope jasper mine discovered out near Mitchell? I would love to hear about the history of it. How it was discovered, how the jasper formed, etc. I’m not looking to know exact location. I just like learning about the history of deposits. Especially those around central Oregon.

Sadly as per the lease we are not able to give any details on its location, other than that it is in Oregon.  The Jasper was found by myself and my brother, derek, while out prospecting.  It is a bog jasper, and as such, it does not form in veins so much as it it forms in little pocket deposits.  Multiple deposits, primarily the tapestry, floating orb (Psychedelic), and the Gemstone all contain large amounts of organic materials and petrified wood embedded within, which is where some of them get their amazing patterns.  There is another variety known as the Herringbone Candy Stripe, which is actually a full form of ferrous iron petrified wood, which creates some really wild pattern and colorations.  We've also found Rhino Coprolite and bone casts at the mine, though sadly the later specimens were lost in the structure fire my father perished in.  

At some point in the near future, we do plan to do a larger writeup on the known information of Kaleidoscope Jasper, with more detailed information on its discovery.  If we ever get around to doing a full mining season, I also plan to do a full mining blog relating to it so others can take part in that.  Someday in the future we may also offer fee digs or at least outside visitors, but we are still negotiating that, and presently it is unknown if it will ever become a thing.  

It is a pretty incredible stone with tons of variety, but sadly it is also a very remote stone, where you can dig for days with a backhoe and be lucky to get a bucket.  It takes a lot of time and work with very little yield, but man, when you get a beautiful one, it makes the weeks of little return well worth it!
