This post originally started as photos of some nice tumbler rough. As more lakers were acquired and with the small LSAs on hand, it turned into an entire barrel. I’ll try to keep it all LSAs as long as possible. All future updates will be in this thread. I was lucky enough to come across some pretty nice LSAs. They’re of decent size and quality.

California doesn't qualify as near enough I guess LOL. I’ve got to keep ‘em to walking distance. Sorry for the n00b question... Lucky Strike Agates? Lexicographically Stable Agates? LOL Starguy - I know you're going to get these beauties into their "Sunday Best" in (what seems to "us onlookers") no time at all my friend! I had to put them aside for a while. The tumblers are all unplugged for a little vacation. They’re all going in as soon as we get back. Some are pretty beach tumbled already. I’m fairly sure there are a couple nice shadow banders in there. I think your version of LSA fits more with Tepees. Man those boogers are tough to tumble. I keep thinking I have some ready, then they have problems in polish. It gives me more appreciation for your cabs. I’m really looking forward to seeing how they turn out too. Lakers are always fun. They’ll Likely Shine Adequately.

I started thinking it would be cool to have an entire barrel of LSAs. It turns out it might be too big of an undertaking or I might need a smaller barrel. I’d like to get it half full of medium nodules before starting. Here’s my progress. I have some more in the mail but they don’t add up very fast. 12lb barrel.

It will be cool and expensive to have an entire barrel of LSAs... LOL. Don’t remind me of the cost. It has been significant. The seller knows what he has, but so do I. They’re all individually purchased and there are few quartzies among the big ones. I have enough small LSAs to fill the barrel and use as replacement but it would be a shame not to add some more nice ones first. In thirty some years of tumbling, I’ve never had a full batch of Lakers.

I know, I know! But you only live once. We had a great vacation. Three weeks and over 7,400 miles of driving. We got to spend one of the weeks with our daughter which was a hoot.

After that many miles, I'd need a butt pillow! LOL Most of the driving was on smaller roads and we got out and looked around whenever things were interesting. We saw lots of metaphysical type rock shops but few old fashioned rock shops. We stopped at a small roadside crystal rock shop in rural Arkansas just after we drove down Crowley Ridge. I traded him a garnet crystal for a couple nice quartz points he mined locally. His name was Andy and it was nice to talk to him for a while. Everybody I talked to on the entire trip was friendly and cordial.

LSA'a are really pretty, but why are they so sought after? They aren't spectacular or anything?

LSA'a are really pretty, but why are they so sought after? They aren't spectacular or anything? I don’t know what it is about Lakers. My favorite tumbled rock is a Laker. Whenever I’m digging through my tumbles, Lakers always grab my attention. They can be kind of hard to tumble because of pits, cracks and quartzy centers but when you get a good one, they are sooooooo satisfying. Maybe it’s because they have so much variety and they are found over a large area.
