If I'm not mistaken, a lot of the voters were "driven" to the site by the Facebook page. A few members would post the photos and direct them here. I'm no longer a member of that FB page so don't know if that is being done but I'm gonna say no Also, covid is "over" and people have returned to somewhat normalcy and hobbies are no longer hobbies

How have we lost 20-30 voters over the last year? Now we have to bump these threads regularly just to barely get 50. Where did everyone go. I know it’s still early, but damn… We're still as busy as ever based on (vetted) members signing up and overall posting etc. I've kind of had '50 something' as the votes benchmark we want for quite a long time but I haven't really studied it. Maybe it could be contest-non-participant voter fatigue from seeing so many voting polls given the "announcement" treatment that it's causing a ho-hum response? Maybe Rich parfive will chime in as he had some feelings on the subject last month. I don't mean this to be snarky either so I hope it doesn't come across as that. If there are improvements to be had I'm all for it.

More or less just an observation.

Congratulations khara! Your intarsia cabochon is really beautiful and it immediately reminded me of a Christmas decoration.

Great intarsia! Extremely good use and selection of material that fit the shape of an ornament. Congratulations again, Khara!

khara a well deserved run away win! I'm still shocked that I got 2 votes with the other entries. I know a lot of people won't vote for themselves. I have no problem doing that if I think my entry is deserving. The intarsia got my vote this time.

Thank you everyone, and thanks victor1941 for the fun theme! It prompted me to get out and dust off my old Inland flat lap machine and start to figure out an intarsia process. It was really fun and I wouldn’t have made the time for it if not for the contest. It took longer than I thought, mostly due to worn out disks, which I’ve now upgraded. Because they were worn I had been rushing to get the pics posted with only 2 minutes to spare! In shopping for new disks I was disappointed to learn that Inland is no longer making their “Swap-Top” machine. It really is a great beginner machine and worked very well for this project. Having a water cooled trim saw I was able to quickly cut the strips of slabs and not spend time trying to get the oil out of them prior to glueing, then just swapped the machine and leveled them out on the flat lap. While it was a frustrating machine to learn to cab on, I’m now disappointed they’ve discontinued it. It will take two machines to replace it.
