thank you 😂. You wanna know something kinda crazy? At least 75% of the cabs I’ve cut for the contests are from that pile. I haven’t even gotten to some of the nicer stuff. Lots of it is from my grandpa and I just don’t have the heart to cut it. Plenty of time left in this month, got some others loaded in the chamber im ready to pull the trigger on.

Work in progress. I completely forgot I needed a pic of the rough, but fortunately it was a piece I had slabbed up myself, so I had this sister-slab. I just got off of the 220 when my hands got cold and my horses got hungry, so there's plenty left to do still. Will that squeak in under the wire for pictures of slab?

No worries. We all forget to take slab pictures occasionally.

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

Realized today was the last chance I'd have to make an entry before the end of the month so here we go. I've had this piece of polychrome Jasper on my bench for months and I'll say this is NOT the shape I was planning to cut. This is my first heart shape I've ever cut and turned out pretty good but definitely learned a lot for next time.
Very nice RockingRuralMo and agatewhisperer ! And, we will see what realrockhound actually ends up entering… :-) Short month everyone! 😬 Hope you all have time to get something finished.

I’ve cut 4 cabs. Have one that stands out as my favorite. I just need to get glam shots. Will post it before the deadline

This is my entry for the metamorphosis contest. This cab reminds me of a large bird flying and silhouetted against the sky. The material is agate from the Yellowstone River area. The front and back images are on a light table at 5600k and 50% brightness and the side is top light. The first image is the top and second the bottom. The initial shape is on the flat lap and everything else is in the UV-18 vibe.

I didn't have a plan for material for this month. Figured I'd just dig in my boxes of slabs. Then I glanced over at the side of my desk and saw this slab of Rhodonite and it seemed it might work. I got this material from Gary opalpyrexia . (He's confirmed it is from Washington state.) He had recently posted a really cool rhodonite cab, that I promptly snatched from his shop. :-)
I like how these cabs turned out but my preforms were definitely more "morphy" than my finished cabs. Once I domed them, the colors shifted a bit but they still morph from one end to the other. And lots of cool colors in this rhodonite. It's actually kind of hard to photo them all. Pictures don't do it justice. The greens are minty teal with mixes of yellow ochre and the pink includes shades of purples.
2 days left people!
Edited: Played around with new photos for this cab and I've replaced my front and side pics. Oddly enough, when I just hold it in my hand I get the most accurate colors. Background color definitely messes with cab color. Tommy , sorry if you already started your collage! 4 hours left people! :-)
realrockhound What? What about that one up above? The round skid-marks one? By the way I need to know the name of that so I can go looking for some! :-)

I wanted to share a second metamorphosis cab that I made for the contest that had potential but was not entered. I normally make several and my wife picks the entry. This is red leopard skin.

I was being my typical smart aleck self. I have the one picked I want. I just need to go to my glam shot station (at my parents place, better lighting lol) and get the shot.
The skid mark one though, you're going to have to reach out to jasoninsd on that one. That was straight from his britches (see previous page for reference lol)
realrockhound Huh, ok. I have a little chunk of Willow Creek jasper. It looks more like a gray Bruneau though. Which, I can see a little of in your cab, but then you've got a lot of cool brown stripey stuff going on too. I'll have to slab mine up at some point, maybe there's more in there.
