Wow Rocknrob you are doing great so far. I’m new to this also and it is hard for me to keep all the information I read straight when I start to grind stones. I mainly work agates now I’m moving into some jasper. For me agates seem easier because of the hardness I get more grind time to go back whey scratches out or even up my dome. I am fortunate enough now to be cutting my own slabs a little thicker than 7mm. I am also working on lowering the dome like you stated tired of high domes all the time lol. Thanks for sharing your experience and I appreciate everyone’s input it helps everyone new to this fantastic sport move forward thx

Thanks for sharing your experience and I appreciate everyone’s input it helps everyone new to this fantastic sport move forward thx High domes are a straight up pain in the butt for me on a flat lap, so much work getting that dome down. This is why on some of my older cabs that I spent time more making a smooth bevel transition to a flatter front on the high dome cabs. At that time the lowest grit I had on hand was 120 and it took forever to remove enough material to make a dome on something that high. I'm sure with something that removes material quicker like a cabbing machine, a high dome is less of a trial. I've also developed a better grasp on the patience necessary to work things out better. Do I have enough patience though? Hehehhehe... no I've found having the option to cut slabs to the thickness I like worth it's weight in gold. The 14" drop saw I have cuts really smoothly, very few saw lines in the cuts which also helps in speed. Earlier I was hand feeding things through a 10" trim saw that was not really intended for slabbing and it showed on my slabs. Took quite some time to cut it down to a workable shape. - Rob
