Hi all. I asked Tony what else he wanted me to make with all the jade he has given me and he said since his wife plays the violin, maybe a violin lapel pin. Much to his suprise, I said okay. I still have a little tweaking to do on it and get a pin mounted on the back, but here is my first attempt at carving jade. It's about 2" long. I hope she likes it.

Fantastic job Ed! I'm sure she'll love it
How about carving in some strings and put in a couple of fancy "holes" along the sides of the strings? Or is that too hard?

WOW! that is too cool, OK...spill...how did you do this and what tools did you use??? i have some pinbacks if you want a few instead of ordering a whole boatload of them, let me know i will pop them in the mail.

Alice, I thought of doing the "f" holes, but not the strings. I'll do them if she wants me to, but getting it this far without breaking the neck off was enough of a challenge. KD. I used my diamond band saw to rough out the shape and make the cuts in between the tuning keys, then used a Dremel to do most of contours. I used my grinder to do the shaping of the face and for polishing it. Did a little hand sanding too. I'm gonna hit Micheal's and see if I can find a pinback small enough, but I'll keep you in mind if I don't have any luck. Thanks for the offer.

Nicely done! Personally, I would go for silver strings on it, maybe with a tiny little bridge made of silver sheet, it shouldn't be too hard to put in. Even if you leave it as is, thats beautiful!

Hey Stoner,
I envy the way you can do those things. How about the little green monster that represents envy?

Thanks everyone. I like a good challenge and this was definetly a challenge. Carving stone is a lot different than cabbing it, and I'm sure it will get easier the more I attempt it.
Okay Kim, what's with the black SUV? Did you see a UFO and the men in black were coming to get you?
