Continuing identification of estate slabs - please help!

Here are 5 of these bad boys for looky-loos with my guesses on top of each of em.

Some kind of jasper perhaps? It's very smooth.

Here are the guesses:

• Jasper, possibly Picasso Stone
• Really not sure but looks like a green tree agate from India... kinda
• Imperial Jasper
• Pigeon Blood Agate
• Snakeskin Jasper

Likely willow creek, the color works out for sure. Wish I had more of this stuff because the texture is phenomenal. 


This one is very translucent calcedony. Normally I would think tree agate or something similar but I don't think I've ever seen it like this.

Unsure of the location from this one (as is always the case with estate sales). Possibly a flame or plume agate.


Is this Tiger Iron? I think tribeunited got this one, comparing it to some photos on the internet it looks like old stock snakeskin jasper. Pretty cool texturing in there.

The first one could be Willow Creek - hard to tell.


Last one I don't think is tiger iron. Looks like Snakeskin jasper/

That raw meat color was the first thing I noticed when I saw imperial jasper the first time! Not a fan of that color.

Maybe it’s just how it shows on my phone but I don’t see any moss in the second pic nor any plumes in the fourth one?

Yeah, it's hard to pin that one down. Even wet, it's not a well defined line between the milky colored bit and the red bit. Maybe a common calcedony with iron making up the red area. I don't know what that really translucent calcedony with the green inclusions is but it's really striking when a light is behind it.

It certainly has the color I see in the Willow creek pictures but it's not very curvy. It's way too clean to be any rhyolite I've seen and it's definitely got the hardness of a Jasper.

So I was looking around and the term "Marfa Agate" came up. Some of these are looking close to the kind of look I'm getting here for #2. Some searches are also drawing correlation to Woodward ranch black plume. Both of which I would be SUPER happy about having.

It’s not. Looks like something you’d find in a river. Too hard to describe.

This is what my texas plume, possibly marfa looks like. Tried to get about the same amount of hand in the pic for scale 





could you upload pics more zoomed in on details? I don’t see anything plumy or mossy in either 2 or 4, so can’t quite tell what you are seeing.

Here are some better shots in of #2. Might have to get the canon camera out for any better details on #4 (Which I did) but TBH it's not a well defined stone. realrockhound what chances do you think it would be a variation of a river jasper/agate combination?

I’m not sure what it is. Would say it’s random. No deposit. Not plume though

Is there a trick for searching for estate sails in a local area that have lapidary material/equipment?   I have tried but it always seems like I am searching for a needle in a haystack.  Thanks.

It's kind of a luck of the draw thing really. Like realrockhound said, Craigslist. There are a few groups on Facebook that sells equipment, slabs and such but the best deals you find at local sales which up here in Puget sound are few and far between. I just google things like "Lapidary estate sale" and "Lapidary rough rock", etc.

It's more of a bluish-brown for the most part with variations of grey streaking across the jasper. It's a really striking color difference compared to the other Jaspers I have which tend toward the warmer side of the spectrum. Sorry I tend to get wordy on color since I deal with it all the time on a computer .

4th one is Pigeon blood agate, from down by Green River, Utah.

2nd one really looks like Challis or Carey agate from Idaho.

That 4th one checks out, looks like someone harvested a bunch of em for cheap Thanksgiving . Thank you catmandewe!

So hard to tell about #2. I can see where you're going, particularly with the Carey agate although I don't see many versions of those with the green/black inclusions (plumes?). Those inclusions are pretty big and not the delicate plumes you see online when you search for river plume agate.
