I received a bunch of Apache Tears from the rockpickerforever (Jean) Memorial Guessing Game. I thought the tears polished nicely. Thanks to pebblesky for providing a guide from her recent raffle on how to set this up and thanks to the anonymous person that donated the rock boxes for the rockpickerforever (Jean) Memorial Guessing Game.
It seems only fitting that I should give something back to the forum members since forum members have been very generous to me with different material. Below are pictures before (not all of them were in this picture in the barrel) and after polishing of the tears. These are really small. I have included a picture of the largest one (to the right of the quarter in the two pile pictures) but there are no others even close to that size (hint). Also included is a handful to give you a better idea of the size (maybe). I took out everything less than about 1/8 inch so no tiny chips or grains.
PARTICIPATION RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Until two weeks from today (9:00 pm central standard time October 23rd) submit a guess on how many Apache Tears are in the pile (big pile with the quarter – top and profile views).
2. Only one guess per ID. Reply to this thread to submit your guess.
3. Closest guess wins. No “can’t go over” restriction. If someone gets the exact number, the contest will be over at that time and they will be the winner. There will be only one winner.
4. Once someone submits a guess, that guess can’t be used by others.
5. In case of a tie, I will have a guess off between the participants who tied. This will probably be a much smaller pile of the Apache Tears (i.e., it took me a long time to count these).
6. I will post the guesses as they come in (as quickly as I can) and add a list to this page with the ID and guess. No changing your guess once you have made it.
PRIZE
A medium flat rate USPS box of unpolished rocks from me. See pictures below. Right now, I have a bunch of Petoskey Stones, Michigan Lightning Stones, and miscellaneous (chert, jasper, quartz) tumbling size stones from Michigan beaches. I will be adding some more to the box to fill it up (after it is reinforced) and will also include a snowman refrigerator magnet (similar to the one on my forum avatar), one unpolished Lake Superior agate, at least one unpolished Charlevoix stone, and at least one unpolished Michigan horn coral. To the extent I can, if requested by the winner, I am willing to change the proportion of the types of rocks (Petoskey stones, Lightning Stones and miscellaneous tumbling material), and can, if someone wishes, include some larger rocks from Michigan suitable for slabbing (I know I have some larger unakite and some others).
SHIPPING
I will pay the postage to the winner if to an address in the United States. If the winner is outside of the US, they can, at their choice, pay for shipping (We will have to figure out payment method for shipping if that happens) or as an alternate, an international winner can choose to pass the box to the next closest contestant. If someone wants to guess but doesn’t want the rocks and wins, they can pass the box on to the next closest contestant.
This is new to me so if I have done anything you think is unworkable, let me know. I hope you enjoy the game. Let the guessing begin!!
