Yogi,
My mom used to have an antique shop in Old Bowie. First in a shop next to the fire station and then in the old Oddfellows Hall. Spent many a weekend there and had quite a few pizzas at the Railroad Inn. I guess it's not the same place anymore.

Old town hasn't changed too much, the Railroad Inn is my favorite pizza! There are like 3 or 4 antique shops next to the fire house and across the street. To the north there are a few small housing tracts they have built in the last couple years, and the city is planning to develop Old Town more, 'Ole Towne' sort of thing. Going towards Greenbelt there are some big housing tracts added in the last 15 years, but it's still a real nice area. We love going to the Fall Fest, good fun.

Bill, which link are you using from photo bucket to put in the post? I'm just
wondering because the pics are so big, I think the 2nd link is a bit smaller
photo and wouldn't talk so long to load for those of us still on dial up. Not
100% sure though since I don't use photo bucket but there's plenty that
do who could tell you the right one.

What a bonanza! Nice glowing colors in those nuggets. I've seen something similar out here in Calif. but i think they were a kind of quartzite and not the nice soft pinks of what you're finding. You've got you a great find there. great picture taking too! Keep up the good work....mel

I've found rocks that have this kind of look to them up here but only in white/clear and a couple that had an orangy look to them. Kind of reminded me of the look that moonstone has. Is it the lines or through it or what that remind you of dino bone?

Well Cher, that one and only web site, with info about this stone, proposed that it is dino bone. From the pieces I found I haven't seen the bold pattern of webbing and cells, like the marrow of a bone, that is seen in the dino bone agate from out west. But after looking at pics of dino agate, some of the stones I have do have a slight 'polka dotted' look that is less defined but somewhat like marrow. On the other hand, some pieces are like colored smoke. A few of the stones are kind of 'glittery', kind of like fire opal, but not as iridescent as opal. Some look a little like plume agate. I can only say for sure that it is some kind of chalcedony, close to carnelian. P.S. I tried the other options in photo bucket, Url and Tag. the URL is just a pasteable address to the file on Photo bucket, and the tag is for including the HTML code in a page. I think the issue is the size I uploaded, I don't think I can do a thumbnail with just the free Photo Bucket account ( don't know for sure if the upgrade account would do thumb nails for me). I'll keep you in mind when I up load future pics and keep them smaller  Bill |

I think it's just amazing that you found a place so close that has such nice stones right there. I'm not sure exactly how photo bucket works, if you need to resize before you put them up or what to get the thumbnails. Thumbnails are ok but if you don't reduce the size of the original that pops up from clicking the thumbnail it doesn't do much good anyway. Still takes way too long to download so there's lots of pics I don't see except in the tiny sizes. There's a free program called Irfanview that you can get at www.download.com and a few other places that let you resize your pics here, I know Earthdog uses it. I use Paint Shop pro myself. I thought there was a thread in the Tips forum on photobucket but couldn't find it. |

Free account will do this. Mine does. Put a check by the photos, then at the bottom click the GENERATE button, then use the thumbnail text. Love the orange rocks! Can't wait to trade. |

Hi there! I realize this is an old post, but I’m curious what you ended up doing with these? Did you tumble any? My young son and I are getting into rock hounding and tumbling. We live in D.C. and recently found some similar stones in Sligo Creek in Silver Spring, MD.
